I’m really liking what Amos Mac and Rocco Kayiatos are doing with their extra-special print zine, Original Plumbing. If you don’t have Issue #1, I think there might be some reprints still available, but if you slept on it, don’t blame me. These two trans business men have embarked on a venture that really understands the market. They’ve identified a lack of product in a certain demographic, defined a clear brand, created a high-quality collectible magazine by/for trans masculine folks, and since its launch, have maintained a steady stream of promotional efforts. Release parties and signings, as well as stickers and T-shirts AND NOW a preview for a video-podcast companion??!! Shit man, that’s A LOT of work and it’s fierce that they are doing it. Important to mention is that this kind of NEW MEDIA product-transparency is what connects people to the stuff they follow, it’s really of the times. The Spanish word dichosos applies here, as Mac and Kayiatos are clearly knee-deep in a labor of love, we should all be so lucky to trail blaze an iconic cultural moment within our own communities. Congrats guys! I’m on the edge of my seat here…

Hunx’s Junk
October 28, 2009
Girls, the band, has quite a back story — no actual girls in the band, cult life, shitty parents, drugs, etc. The record is really good — early Elvis Costello CHANNELED. I had always wondered about the first line from the first song “Oh, I wish I had a boyfriend, I wish I had a loving man in my life. I wish I had a father, and maybe then I would have turned out right.” Seems a dramatic intro to a first record, but there’s real autobiography in there. Leave it to timing (see previous post about Hunx and His Punx) to have a new NSFW music video for said song premiere today. “Lust for Life” features Hunx and his erect junk being used as a microphone to lip synch by a twinky bed mate. Of course, Pitchfork features the video and talks about the boobs and the “schlong” but doesn’t mention that it’s Hunx’s. This is the link to the video, remember: NSFW!

New Shondes Video
May 13, 2009It’s been a while since The Shondes released their album, “The Red Sea,” and when their tour wrapped up in November, I wasn’t sure when we’d hear from these out queer jews again. A happy surprise it was when I saw they released a music video for “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow,” one of their best. I think if you took some Amanda Palmer, added a little grunge, and toss around some orchestration, you’d get The Red Sea. Let’s hope this means a new record sooner than later.

Abe Vigoda – Don’t Lie
April 16, 2009This new video for Abe Vigoda‘s song “Don’t Lie” is a little too California for me. Something about living over there makes psychedelic treatments of roads seem, uh, video-worthy. In any case, our favorite Latino queer in the driver’s seat (where we like them) has a nice new beard, and the song is a muddly pop jam.

Peaches – Talk To Me
April 11, 2009
I said it before, and I’ll say it again: this might be a good time to renew your faith in Peaches. Production by Simian Mobile Disco, Soulwax, Drums of Death and a guest spot by Shunda K, May 5TH is sure to be a good day for beat-driven gender fucking. There is a really interesting mini-documentary about Peaches’ history and her vision over at peachesrocks.com. Merrill Nisker is once again leaving an off-white stain on the indie community, and I’m excited. I Feel Cream‘s songs are all over the internet if you l.o.o.k. hard enough, don’t rely on me kids. Vid for lead single “Talk To Me” below, tracklist after the jump.

More Captain lOver
April 7, 2009When last we left Captainl0ver, he was signing Daft Punk. While it was always hot, it wasn’t the ambitious, sweaty, camera + abdominal cuts that we have for his version of Britney Spears’ “If You Seek Amy.” Nevermind the song: backdrops, scenery changes and some body sheen are making this quite a hobby, and if he keeps at it, Captainl0ver has some post-youtube potential. I mean, who else is making sexy, rhythmic music videos for the deaf?

Patrick Wolf’s “The Bachelor”
March 19, 2009Stereogum has been all up on the Patrick Wolf news, giving us scoop by scoop of happenings with the freshly blonde’s ambition. His new album, The Bachelor comes out June 1st, and its first single “Vulture” comes out April 20th. A pretty dope remix is already making the rounds and a corresponding video will have all the gay blogs talking very soon. Featuring a leather and latex clad (jockstrap alert!) Wolf, there is, in fact, butt crack in this video. There is also, after you get over his really nice butt crack, a good, tormented-electro song playing while he shiggles and rakes all over the bed. Another tidbit: Tilda Swinton will be on one of the Bachelor tracks. Yup. Download below, the vid above is NSFW.

Ssion
March 15, 2009It’s not a secret how much I love Ssion. Almost two years after its completion, the band is still riding high off of the success of their last album Fool’s Gold. Leader and visionary Cody Critcheloe has really been taking advantage of the attention on the record and the richness of material embedded in the songs to flesh out his talents as a video director. This video for the song “Bullshit” is no exception (I’m counting 8th music vid, not to mention all the out-takes and snippets, there is supposed to be a tour documentary in the works) to the rule that all Ssion videos are fun, edgy, sexy and queered. From the many set pieces to the “backing band” Waiting 2 Exhale (composed of Madonna, Roseanne and Courtney Love), Critcheloe’s love for art, the Woman, and comedy is a pleasure to behold. Check out an “interview” with the backing band below.
