November 9, 2008

Photobucket

Chicago’s best indie theatre company, Pavement Group, is holding its newest production, Arrangements at the EP Theatre in Pilsen. Running through November 30th, this is a perfect time for you to usher in the holiday season–what’s better than edgy theatre with a friend? I certainly can’t wait to see it, if Pavement Group’s last show, Lipstick Traces was any hint as to their current trajectory, this should be the hit of the season. Pop Montreal 2008, with appearances by Hot Chip and Baby Dee is looking like another reason to move North of the border. One the of the nights, will be a screening of “Cruisin’ 57,” a pre-condom gay pornographic movie. You can read more about the movie, including NSFW stills at bijouworld.com, but the real news is that Owen Pallett, of Final Fantasy, Beirut and the Arcade Fire is gathering friends to perform a live score for it, and it’s all going down at CinĂ©ma L’Amour. Sounds French, artsy and hot. Check out the schedule here.

Pavement Group’s Lipstick Traces

May 8, 2008

Chicago is always lucky. Even during the crappiest weather this side of Montreal, we always have so many talented people trying to get shot done. David Perez, artistic director for Pavement Group, gathered a group of friends he knew from working at the Steppenwolf and decided they wanted to transform theatre. If indie music venues all over the city can be sold out, why can’t the same be true for indie theatre? This month, Pavement Group attempts to speak to younger art fans who are still trying to find their live for theatre with “Lipstick Traces–A Secret History of the 20th Century.” Adapted from a book by Greil Marcus, “Lipstick Traces” is about the birth of punk told through the story of Johnny Rotten and the Sex Pistols. The hate/love message that came with a new subculture really inspired Perez to try and realte that to today’s disenfranchised youth. From May 9th through June 1st, the AV-aerie will be hosting the production. Tickets are available from www.pavementgroup.org.
