As Guiding Light fades off the air this week, we Otalia fans are on the edge of our seats!! Guiding Light has been lacking for years now and the only compelling love story playing out as of late has been this refreshing tale of two adult women battling the odds to be with each other. Classic soap story with a lesbian twist! Unfortunately as much as this story has been entertaining it’s still missing essential components of realism. Longing looks and warm hugs are cute but come on now! Can we get a juicy Otalia kiss?!?!? Of course some sexual relations for Otalia would be ideal but with the clock ticking and the fact that they haven’t even shared a kiss yet, sex is doubtful. All the investment put into this story will seem moot if Otalia isn’t given that one smooch. Guiding Light was already robbed of any future, here’s to hoping Otalia isn’t robbed of their last chance to be portrayed just as equally as all the heterosexual couples that have filled our daytime screens for years now!

After All My Children gave us daytime’s first lesbian wedding, the story potential for supercouple Rianca looked bright. Instead, the marriage was over in a week and Bianca walked out on Reese. I guess finding out your wife has been exploring her sexuality with your sister’s husband (who also fathered your child) can definitely put strain on a newlywed! With actress Eden Reigel (Bianca) deciding not re-sign her contract, the writers decided to go for plot driven story rather than character driven. Reese was written into a corner and made a pariah, then became temporarily blind?!?!? Whatever. This week, Eden Reigel returns for a few episodes to give Rianca a second chance. Bianca and Reese are set to rekindle their love, and venture off to Paris where their love began. As sad as it is to have these two powerhouse actresses leave the AMC canvas, at least we can find comfort in knowing that Rianca will have their happily ever after, and the writers won’t be able to ruin these groundbreaking characters any further…for now. Bon voyage Rianca and may your make-up sex be the stuff of legend!

How fantabulous was it to watch Olivia admit her love, then to have Natalia run off on Frank and then to have Otalia find each other at the gazebo, where Natalia finally admitted her love to Olivia?! Watching this organic relationship come to fruition was well worth the wait. Natalia’s struggle with her faith, and Olivia’s uncharacteristic selflessness (let’s face it people, Olivia’s always been a self-serving manipulative bitch) proved that love is never predictable. Olivia and Natalia may be now sorting out their feelings, but the rest of us know that we want some happily ever after for Otalia! It’s a shame that Guiding Light stepped up it’s game right before the curtains came tumbling down. Had GL focused on such a natural, realistic love story (NO MATTER THE SEX) rather than gimmicks then the doom of cancellation could’ve been avoided. At least we have a few more months to root for a happy ending for Otalia!!!
P.S. Kudos to having Guiding Light’s in the closet lesbian mayor, Doris, volunteer to officiate at the wedding…as she egged Olivia on to stop it from happening!

I know it’s been hard dealing with the upcoming demise of wacky outlandish daytime staple Passions! No need to fret–there is some joy to be had amid all the misery. The show that brought us witches, mermaids, hermaphrodites and talking dolls (R.I.P. Timmy) is bringing us day time’s first ever gay wedding! Passions resident Sorceress Tabitha is set to marry Norma and Mrs. Wallace this week! The ceremony is scheduled to air July 22nd! Leave it to Passions to continue to break barriers even in its final episodes.
Lets hope ATWT writers tune in and feel inspired and give day time’s only other gay couple, Luke and Noah, more than just random kisses. I mean seriously, why is it acceptable for daytime heterosexual characters to practice all kinds of uninhibited infidelities with each other, and the gay boys cant even get a little bumping and grinding?!?!?!?!? Sooooo not having it!
Thanks Passions!!
