Gratuitous Nudity (NSFW?)

February 24, 2009

I was laughing at how many Sean Penn-related status updates on Facebook I read after his Oscar win. And why not? His acceptance speech was pretty quotable: “I think that it is a good time for those who voted for the ban against gay marriage to sit and reflect and anticipate their great shame and the shame in their grandchildren’s eyes if they continue that way of support. We’ve got to have equal rights for everyone.” BUT, what I really want to talk about Milk‘s Oscar winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black. HOT!

And for you lady lovers, a new mag is causing an NYC flare-up,  a fashion-hemorrhoid if you will, with Candénast’s latest (and probably last) print-project, the magazine Love. This brand new, twice yearly last gasp is attempting to be an edgy-fashion house, and for its debut, had Beth Ditto on the cover, all nudy-kins about it. Not to piss on their efforts, but NME already did that. Anyhow, a magazine that gets Ditto’s Ta Ta’s all over fancy store windows in Manhattan is good enough for a post.

Antony Mouthing Off, Is Fierce

January 29, 2009

I haven’t blogged too much about Antony & The Johnsons since before the new record came out. And if you haven’t been able to “get over his voice” then it’s your loss. Antony Hegarty will go down as one of the greatest musicians in modern history. The Crying Light brought me to tears the first time I heard it, and he’ll be in Chicago in February. You bet your ass I’ll be right in front. In the above clip, he talks about loving the Cocteau Twins, radical hopefulness and sings “Epilepsy is Dancing” and “Another World.”

AND, in some queer fierceness, he had this to say about the movie Milk:

“It’s like blackface to me … it’s a continuing Hollywood minstrel show, co-opting queer stories and perversely building up the careers of these heterosexual bastards with the plumage of effeminacies, that they can wear this plumage of effeminacies without having to really be accountable”

…and then later this:

“I want to apologize to Sean Penn for appearing disrespectful in my recent comments in New York Magazine. It is not with him, or his virtues as an actor, or his embrace of gay causes, with which I take issue. Rather it is a Hollywood industry that has not yet evolved to a point where it can allow gay and transgendered actors to represent themselves and their historic icons on screen. What a sense of pride this would instill in the minds of gay and transgendered children everywhere, to know that there are dignified roles for them in the acting profession and in the world.”

Preach it, sister.

Milk: Official Trailer

September 4, 2008

Aesthetically, it looks like vintage porn. Sean Penn seems like he’s in for an Oscar and there’s lots of naked James Franco. SOLD!

Penn, The Milky Way

December 4, 2007

*Sean Penn (L) and Harvey Milk (R)

Sean Penn has been cast in the leading role for Milk (2009), a movie that will depict the life and assisination of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official in the U.S. If you don’t know the story, go read about it because really, it was a travesty. The obvious murder, the bogus trial and the most insulting verdict should make for good popcorn munch. Directed by Gus Van Sant, we could have a whirlwind of hype and media coverage, always good for the queers. Let’s start now by spreading the word.
