Weekend Jam – THE HOOD INTERNET vs DVAS vs KID STATIC

June 25, 2010

Photobucket

I know it’s pride weekend and I haven’t blogged about events or marches or drinks or all the other good stuff that goes on in Chicago. I’m sure you have a facebook, and I’m sure you’re cool friends keep you informed. Be sure to come to the Dyke March though. It’s trailblazing over in South Shore this year, and it should be just as historical and epic as when it moved to Pilsen. When you are out and about, make sure to keep some sunscreen on, watch out for roofies, wear a bike helmet and take Monday off! It’s a gay holiday. Finally, be sure to have hot jamz on cue. The Hood Internet continues to do no wrong with this new DVAS track featuring recent Chicago to L.A. MC Kid Static. It’s a scorcher.

Stereogamous

April 6, 2010

Photobucket

While some of his early originals struck me as too blown-out-Ibiza-white-party-mega-mix, Australia’s Stereogamous‘s latest tracks have been hitting my sweet spot. The right vocal edits, hard bass-lines and running synths have dropped trow with his self-penned “sauna beat,” and some brash outness only thickens the steam. Follow him on twitter @stereogamous to get his latest, grab two below.

Hercules Remixed Aeroplane

March 6, 2009

Photobucket

…a while ago. But as spring creeps out of the worst winter Chicago has seen in years, this electro-disco smoothness is just what I needed. Check out Aeroplane’s myspace and enjoy the track + remix below.

Scream Club On New Yuksek Track

January 31, 2009

*Yuksek

Yuksek is coming out with a record on February 2nd, and I shouldn’t have to mention how blog-ticipated it is. I just found this remix he did of French band The Shoes. Yuksek breathed some much needed life into queeros Scream Club by throwing them on top of The Shoes’ hard synths. What we are left with is a nice electro-rap that would fit in nicely at your next queer dance party.

Ssion Remixed Jeppe

January 14, 2009

Photobucket

Jeppe, aka Senior from the much missed Junior Senior put his new track “Big Boy” up on his myspace a couple of months ago. This week, the song got remixed by Ssion, (pronounced “shun” for once and for all, people!) who also happened to have one the best records of 2008. Ssion add a stronger beat, some staccato synths and just make it clubbier. Good gays, very good gays. I also wanted to post Ssion’s “Credit in the Straight World,” which I never did but is basically TPR’s anthem. Download links below.

JD Remixed Dance Yourself To Death

January 14, 2009

Photobucket

JD got the lesbian SCOOP! Your favorite ex-member of Le Tigre has been seriously kicking out the jams lately, and this time she’s helped us discover the newest queer heart throbs, Dance Yourself to Death. Canada has always had their shit together, and the Stevie Nicks/Ex-Members stylings of this Toronto-based band is about to put actual rock ‘n ROLL back on the map. AND to top it off, they come out swinging with a slammin’ remix by JD Samson. I’m almost too happy to post this. Head over to the myspace and check out the remix and the video below.

Random Gay Remixes

December 21, 2008

Photobucket

The DJ Stinky Pinky alter-ego is always working on something, trying to better hisself and all that. One of my newest projects is a new mixtape, the details of which will be revealed sometime this winter. As a nice segway into the 2008 list spectaculanza, (be ready for some major lists this week)  I thought I would round up some random links to remixes that have charted my queer brain.

Winnie Cooper has some excellent new installments from MY!GAY!HUSBAND!

The Pet Shop Boys Have lent their synth talent to a new MGMT single.

Ssion’s new 12″  has some treatments from Nick Zinner, Hawney Troof, Krazy Fiesta.

JD Samson’s remix of Northern State‘s song, Better Already is not at all new but so damn hot.

Tiga is as it again, this time with a track called “Mind Dimension,” the Gingy Remix has been making the rounds.

Simian Mobile Disco Remixed Deerhunter

November 26, 2008

Photobucket

It’s been a while since we talked about Bradford Cox and his main gig, Deerhunter. Their new record, Microcastle, is a difficult, swoony haze, and their signature buried pop is harder to find. I guess the guys in Simian Mobile Disco were longing for some danceability in a Deerhunter track, and went back to the band’s last record, Cryptograms for the song “Octet.” Here we have a nice rendering, with the weird Cox loops and echo intact, all the while the bass is fine and beat is in front. Nice.

JD Samson Remixes CSS

September 29, 2008

Photobucket

Adding a slice of Salt-N-Pepa type rhythm in the beginning and some MEN-like beats in there, I am so happy to report that JD is taking her remixing seriously. Copped it (affectionately) from I Heart Comix.

Enjoy!
