Reeling 2009 Has TPR All Stars

October 28, 2009

Photobucket

The 28th annual Queer Film Festival in Chicago, Reeling 2009, is set to go from November 5th -15th and I’m happy to say the roster includes two movies made by folks who have been getting TPR support for years. Fish Out of Water, the documentary by Ky Dickens about the bible and homosexuality, will have its Chicago premiere on Sunday November 8th at 5pm at the Music Box Theater, with post-film reception hosted and sponsored by In Fine Spirits (5420 N. Clark St.). On Wednesday November 11th at 7pm, The Landmark will screen the world premiere of Riot Acts: Flaunting Gender Deviance in Music Performance, a documentary about trans musicians by Chicago’s very own Actor Slash Model. I’m busy combing through the other entries to see what else I’m excited about, but I’m SO HAPPY about these two that I had to post. Stay tuned, will have ticket giveaways soon!

Rock Reeling

November 10, 2008

You gotta give it up to this year’s staff at Reeling. With the inclusion of Pansy Divsion: Life in a Gay Rock Band and Bruce La Bruce’s Otto; or, Up WIth Dead People (which bordered on brilliant, BTW), this year’s GLBT film fest in the Windy City is trying to redefine what a queer film fest can be. One of the more interesting additions is the queer music showcases, which aim to highlight talented queers in the music business: showing music videos in between live performances. Here is what’s up for Rock Reeling:

  • Wednesday, November 12, 2008 – Rock Reeling: Women’s Music Showcase – 9:00 PM, Spyners Pub, 4623 N. Western – View Rock Reeling’s music videos between live sets by visiting musicians Sean Wiggins (www.myspace.com/seanwiggins) and Edie Carey (www.ediecarey.com), while munching on scrumptious appetizers at the very welcoming local bar, Spyners. Two drink tickets will be given to each music lover, good for Blue Moon Beer or Three Olives Vodka cocktails. Admission: $10 ($8 members).
  • Thursday, November 13, 2008 – Rock Reeling: Men’s Music Showcase – 9:00 PM, Hamburger Mary’s, 5400 N. Clark – Enjoy the awesome atmosphere of Mary’s Attic as we bring recognition to the men’s indie music frontier featuring Detroit music sensation, Sean Z (www.myspace.com/seanzmusic) and music videos featuring artists from around the world.

Reeling Started – Win Tickets!

November 7, 2008

*Trailer for Otto

TPR has tickets to give away to Reeling, Chicago’s annual GLBT Film Festival. We have one pair of tickets to Saturday, November 8th’s 10pm screening of “Pansy Division: Life in a Gay Rock Band” and one pair of tix to Sunday, November 9th’s 8pm screening of Bruce La Bruce’s “Otto; Or, Up With Dead People”. Pansy Division is at the Landmark and Otto is at the Lakeshore Theatre. In order to win these tickets, you must send an email to thinkpinkradio((@))gmail.com and tell me what is your other favorite queer blog and why. It can be any queer, gay, bi, lesbian, trans or whatever blog that you have identified as such (that’s where the why part comes in). GLBT film fests can sway surprisingly mainstream, so TPR is happy to support these alterna-queer shows. Full schedule for Reeling here.

The Otto screening is part of a larger costume party:

Break out your scariest, bloodiest zombie attire for a fabulous costume party hosted by Chicago-area drag queens in honor of the comedic horror, Otto; or, Up With Dead People. And enjoy a special live performance by mutant punk rockers, Hotlips Messiah (www.myspace.com/hotlipsmessiah).

Stay tuned for more info on Reeling events, including their new queer music showcase: Rock Reeling!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

It’s that time of year! Reeling, Chicago’s annual GLBT film festival is happening November 8th -Sunday November 18th with screenings all over the city. There is a full schedule over at their website and a short glance reveals Reeling is looking to party. In addition to all the movies, there are late night galas happening all week with special appearances by Bruce Vilanch, Rupaul and Guinevere Turner.

Quick highlight: Itty Bitty Titty Committee Directed by Jamie Babbit

Jamie Babbit has written for many of your favorite shows, including Gossip Girl, Ugly Betty, The L Word and most notable for me, she directed But I’m a Cheerleader, a hysterical parody of a homosexual rehabilitation camp for gay teens. You know the one, don’t pretend. Itty Bitty Titty Committee screens Friday, November 16th at Film Row Cinema at 7pm.
