If you didn’t know, Chicago has a punk marching band full of hot young things. Mucca Pazza, above, as captured by Igor Kamalov. More here.

I Blogged For BUTT
December 10, 2009
It’s true. A little while ago, they put a call out for writers, and I snapped that up like it was BOGO dress shirts from Express (I don’t have lofty fashion goals…not YET, anyway). For my first contribution, I interviewed Marc Ruvolo, a sweet sweet honey bear that has a tribute to Klaus Nomi call Aspic Tines. The interview went well and I hope to do more for the BUTT Blog. Head over to the post and won’t you leave a comment? PREESH.

Hunx
November 28, 2008I am really happy that after all this time, former Gravy Train!!!! homo Hunx has his solo project up and running. Two seven inches have been pressed, the new music video (above) is pretty cute, and the bloc of songs over at the myspace are all very good. Songwriting credits are listed to NOBUNNY, and if you go over to his space, the Ramones/Screeching Weasel influence is all over his shit. Anyhow, you might think this is Pansy Division all over again, but so far these songs are just girl-group enough to make me jump on the bus. The 7″ for “You Don’t Like Rock N’ Roll” has scratch-off cover art, and you know I got one!!

Reeling Started – Win Tickets!
November 7, 2008
*Trailer for Otto
TPR has tickets to give away to Reeling, Chicago’s annual GLBT Film Festival. We have one pair of tickets to Saturday, November 8th’s 10pm screening of “Pansy Division: Life in a Gay Rock Band” and one pair of tix to Sunday, November 9th’s 8pm screening of Bruce La Bruce’s “Otto; Or, Up With Dead People”. Pansy Division is at the Landmark and Otto is at the Lakeshore Theatre. In order to win these tickets, you must send an email to thinkpinkradio((@))gmail.com and tell me what is your other favorite queer blog and why. It can be any queer, gay, bi, lesbian, trans or whatever blog that you have identified as such (that’s where the why part comes in). GLBT film fests can sway surprisingly mainstream, so TPR is happy to support these alterna-queer shows. Full schedule for Reeling here.
The Otto screening is part of a larger costume party:
Break out your scariest, bloodiest zombie attire for a fabulous costume party hosted by Chicago-area drag queens in honor of the comedic horror, Otto; or, Up With Dead People. And enjoy a special live performance by mutant punk rockers, Hotlips Messiah (www.myspace.com/hotlipsmessiah).
Stay tuned for more info on Reeling events, including their new queer music showcase: Rock Reeling!

Punk77!
May 26, 2008
- * Jayne County
I recently picked up a Near Mint copy of the New York Dolls Ep on Kamera Records, and I didn’t even know how rare it was until I got home and did some research. As it turns out, another score from this innocent purchase was that I stumbled upon www.punk77.co.uk, a really nice looking site that has TONS of information about rare bands and performers from punk’s peak:
Punk77! is a history of UK Punk Rock from 1976-79: Featuring an A-Z of punk bands from Adam and The Ants to The Sex Pistols to X Ray Spex, fanzines, punk girls, rare record sleeves, audio clips, fashion, punk rock lyrics, interviews and loads of pictures.
Besides having a strong list of women in punk, it also has this piece written by Jayne County, a history making punk transwoman who is still kicking it today. The story is about the early days of NYC’s Roxy Club and the beginning of it all, written casually and fabulously.

Queer Control Records
March 21, 2008
San Fransisco’s Queer Control Records has been busy signing the best in queer punk bands to make 2008 huge. Chicago’s very own 8″ Betsy scored a deal with the imprint and their 1st record, This Time, Last Time, Every Time was released early this year. The record shows a refined, melodic punk that only the studio can bring out. Tough Tough Skin, an all trans-man assault, also a Queer Control signee, is a self proclaimed “queernerdcore” band. You can stream songs at their myspace and buy direct from Queer Control Records. Get some live action when QCR Presents “Pass The Torch” West Coast Tour 2008 with a roster exclusive line up featuring 8 Inch Betsy, Pariah Piranha, Oi-Gays, Fruit Punch and Tough Tough Skin! Dates after the jump!

Transpunk: Art, Poetry, Spikes
March 18, 2008
I’ve been enjoying the poems over at UK based Transpunk, a colorful website dedicated to all things punk and gender queer. Some parts are still under construction, so it looks like the site is pretty new. Get over there and tell site owner “Emmet the Girl” how much you love it. You can even send over your own poems, photography and links and maybe they’ll get posted! Thanks to the ever-punk, ever hott Queer Control Records for the link.

“Búscate Un Novio” Means “Super Way Cool” In Spanish
January 23, 2008
Actually, no. It means “get yourself a boyfriend,” or “look for a boyfriend.” But also, it is the name of the coolest blog I’ve found in a while. AND I spend a silly amount of time online: quality time for my boyfriend and I is sitting next to each other with our laptops sharing cool links and sites, so while I’ve already found one a guy pal, I’m still impressed with Búscate. Seemingly based in Spain (sorry, gringos-no English to be had anywhere on the site), there’s a can’t be missed girl-boner for feminism in rock and roll. Plenty of queer highlights, also new and old, famous through way too cool to have been heard of before mp3′s by female fronted punk and pop bands. Can you think of anything that beats that? Didn’t think so. Go here to stream and download a concert by the Ditty Bops on 11/17/07 in California, brought to you by Búscate Un Novio.
