Atomic Sketch This Thursday

June 15, 2010

Photobucket

The Atomic Sketch Event is a monthly live art event hosted by Brian Hofmeister, Dominic Cesario and Charles Joly. The event takes place in Wicker Park, at Evil Olive, 1551 W. Division Avenue.

Atomic Sketch is a great event for both artists and art enthusiasts. The event consists of a panel of artists sketching throughout the night and they’ll offer works created for sale to patrons. There is a featured artist who will have a more formal show of artwork to be on display through the following month at Evil Olive. Artists are always welcome to come and sketch and sell even if they’re not on the panel. Just find a place to work and you’re all set.

And please be our friend on facebook and contact atomicsketch((@))gmail.com

Atomic Sketch Event will be held on the last Thursday of every month from 6-10pm.

This month  will be celebrating Gay Pride Month with an all-GLBT panel of artists. (I’ll be DJ-Ing), Artist Ian Sklarsky returns to headline the event with his show of blind contour line drawings! The full list of this months artists:

Planning Meeting for Latin@ Pride Week

April 15, 2010

Photobucket

RSVP at the facebook event.

Latino Pride can mean different things for different people, but most of us can agree that it is about celebrating our lives, our families and our community. For the last 5 years Orgullo en Accion has put on a wonderful Picnic Celebrating Latino(a) Pride creating a space to celebrate both our Latino(a) and Queer culture, and we should be grateful for all of the work, but a growth spurt is long over due.

I am reaching out to you with a bold proposal, that during the week of June 7th to June 12th, we declare “Latino(a) Queer Week”. Now many of you may be asking, “well what does this mean?”, and what it simply means is that at least for this one week during the year, we can come together as community and celebrate our individual lives and organizations. It sounds like a large undertaking but it does not have to be. There is so much energy, power and passions within us that we can make anything happen.

Please come out to the Latino(a) LGBTQQ Community Meeting

Dyke March On The Move Again

January 20, 2010

Photobucket

After two successful (and historic) years in Pilsen, Dyke March Chicago is set to move to a different neighborhood. A controversial decision to get out of just one Northiside area in 2008, DMC found a supportive environment to deliver its direct-action to other parts of the city. Happening the day before the Pride Parade, the annual march’s protest and non-commercial roots are a necessary part of celebrating Pride Weekend–wherein the Pride Parade can be overrun with coorporations looking to advertise, the Dyke March is about reaching out to people in and out of our communities with a respectful yet undeniable presence.

There are two upcoming gatherings to discuss the location of Dyke March Chicago for 2010. The organizers, now calling themselves Chicago Dyke March Collective, are meeting at Back Story Cafe, 6100 S. Blackstone on Thursday January 21st at 6:00pm. The purpose of this meet and greet is to participate in an open conversation about what the march is, how we organize, the process of picking a location, how you can participate, and meet past and current organizers! Whether you are interested in helping organize the march march or just want to join the conversation and show your support, please come!

There will also be a community forum where we will take comments, evaluate the work that has been done, and collectively decide where we will be marching in 2010 and 2011. on February 4th, 7 pm at Affinity Community Services located at 5650 South Woodlawn Avenue.

Please invite other community members who may be interested. Please RSVP on FB or to dykemarchchicago(((@)))gmail.com.

Kick Off Pride W/ Lady Bunny, Reaganomix and Stinky Pinky!

June 11, 2009

Photobucket

SO LUCKY to be Dj-ing alongside Reaganomix and Lady Bunny, an important icon in the queer canon. This night benefits Fish Out of Water, the Chicago-based film that will forever change the way we fight against oppressive “christians” that use the bible to shame us and justify their bigotry. Trailer for the film below.

Latin@ Pride Picnic Saturday, June 13th

June 2, 2009

Photobucket

Yes it’s Pride Month but if all you are looking forward to is the official Parade, then you are missing some city-folk action. The parade’s really for commercials and burbies, REALLY! The people behind the Latin@ Pride Picnic have a wonderful day in Humboldt Park in store for you. From 12pm – 6pm, there will be a clown, grills, dancers, drag kings/queens, and best of all: that Latin Spice my boyfriend loves. Latino/a people and allies from all over the city come to this for a day of celebration and connecting with our brown brethren. From the press release:

Why a Latin@ Pride event you ask?? Chicago’s Latina/Latino Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer communities, recognize the need and importance of celebrating and acknowledging our diverse identities and
cultures. Most Gay Pride celebrations held in Chicago have become more commercialized and lack education about Latino LGBTQ realities, such as health, immigration or violence, and few have non-commercialized sponsors.

Butt’s Having Pride Parties

April 28, 2009

Photobucket

I can’t tell you how bad I wish I was going to be in NYC the week before Pride. BUTT magazine just announced two pre-Pride Celebrations. The first one, called BANG, will be at The Knitting Factory with performances by Salem, Hunx and His Punx, and Sissy Nobby (more on Sissy Nobby in another post). The 2nd party will be at at Terence Koh’s gallery, Asia Song Society (ASS), and it will be a queer video film fest. They have just anounced an open call for submissions, and will be accepting films until May 20th, the show opens on June 19th.
