Ric-Star!

After years and years of hints and unconfirmed speculation in the pages of Marvel Comics X-Force, writer Peter David finally decided to tackle Rictor and Shatterstar’s relationship with issue #45 of X-Factor. In this issue, Shatterstar made his return to the fold after being absent for some time and had a jaw-dropping reunion with Rictor, as they greeted each other with a hot kiss and a warm embrace. Finally readers suspicions were validated!  When Peter David outted Shatterstar Rob Liefeld (Shatterstar’s original creator) was not too pleased with that character development, and made mention on his message board that he had no problem with gay characters if that’s where their true origins were, insisting that Shatterstar’s weren’t, and further stating that he could not wait to someday undo this, which would entail “ungaying” Shatterstar. Well praise the comic gods that Rob Liefeld has no say as to what happens to Shatterstar, as Marvel Comics Editor in Chief, Joe Quesada, commented in his weekly segment “Cup of Joe” on the Comic Book Resources website, that Marvel owns the character not Rob and although Rob is entitled to his opinion, Mr. Liefeld would have to wait to address that with Marvel’s NEXT editor in Chief. Snap!

There haven’t been any major developments as of late in the Ric-Star coupling but writer Peter David is promising to explore their relationship further, not only from formerly asexual Shatterstar’s and suddenly queer Rictor’s eyes, but also through the eyes of their teammates. Check out Lyle Masaki’s interview with Peter David over at Afterelton.com for more deets on Ric-star and be sure to check out January’s “Nation X: X-Factor” one-shot where it is rumored that Ric-Star’s relationship as well as Longshot and Dazzler’s (the unconfirmed rumored parents of Shatterstar) will be further explored!

Otalia Lives on in Venice

October 7, 2009

Ok so Otalia got the happy ending they deserved…minus the televised kiss the couple and the fans deserved! After Guiding Light’s demise, we hear that there was a kiss taped but was cut out due to “time constraints”!? Digging deeper into the back story of Otalia it turns out that Executive producer Ellen Wheeler’s Mormon background and her reliance on her Mormon’s community’s thoughts played a major role in throwing shade on Otalia’s spotlight — everything from the story’s conception to its bitter end. Fortunately, the story of Otalia motivated Crystal Chappell (ex-Olivia half of supercouple Otalia) to seek out other outlets to continue Otalia’s story. When Chappell was shot down for trying to spin off Otalia to sister show As the World Turns, or to continue Otalia as a web series, she decided to create a queer story of her own. That story will be showcased through Venice! Venice is a web series co-created by Chapell and not only stars herself but also includes her ex-Otalia super couple co-star Jessica Leccia as well as a cast of familiar daytime faces all donating their creative talents for free!!!! Chappell will play queer designer Gina and the story will follow her dramatic life in Venice, CA. The first episode features a big fat juicy kiss between Crystal and Jessica’s characters! Take that Ellen Wheeler! No word yet on any dates for Venice’s debut but you can follow Venice the series on Facebook and Twitter for further updates! See you in Venice!

As The World Turns Not Turning Away From the Gay

November 14, 2008

So the boys are getting some airtime and some trials and tribulations to face. Considering the limited airtime (and story) we’ve gotten from Luke and Noah over the last few months, I’m genuinely enjoying watching the boys deal with these new challenges (even if they’re not dealing with the big screaming horny pink elephant in the room). The kicker here though is that grandma Lucinda’s boring fiance, Brian, is an undercover brother! Look for Brian to comfort Luke during his breakdown due to Noah’s betrayal, and the two end up locking lips. Scandalous I say, and I’m luving it.
