Get Ready! Vespertine, Women-Only Play Party This Memorial Day Weekend

April 28, 2010

Photobucket

You know how easily gay men talk about going to a bar with a back room? Or basement? (If you don’t know gay guys that easily talk about back rooms or basements, you need to get some more gay friends, just sayin’). I’ve always thought it was a shame that my queer lady pals don’t have the ability to joke about that awkard underwear hug or funny run-in at the urinal that is also a bath tub. Culturally, it’s a unique space for male homosexualists, and as long as you play safe, I think it can be a healthy experience and “fresh” perspective.

SO glad my mother doesn’t use the internet BTW.

Enter Verspertine, a private club that only comes around once in a blue moon. Women get to learn and explore their kinks and desires in an environment free from potential creeps and gropers, and I can only IMAGINE how liberating that must feel. Just last month Chicago comic and perrenial cutie Cameron Esposito was showing off her Steamworks membership card that she got when she was featured in a taping of Feast of Fun. She can’t go to the Boystown bath house to play, but she was surely excited about being a member and the first woman to hold that distinction. Congrats, Cameron! If you are serious about being in that kind of environment, Vespertine is the place to start. The next one falls on International Mr. Leather Weekend, or Memorial Day Weekend.

Vespertine is being held on May 30TH 2010. Tickets will be available at Leather 6410/Paul C Leather 6410 N. Clark in Chicago starting May 1st. You may also order by phone, 773-508-0900.

Sugar Butch Chronicles

May 26, 2009

Photobucket

PHew, flurpg. The sounds of palette cleansing. After this weekend, I can take a small break from queeny half-dressed men. Thank god a friend of mine mentioned Sugarbutch Chronicles, a kinky, sexy blog by Sinclair Sexsmith. Sexsmith is not a misnomer, as this turned out to be a hot site for dykes who like their porn and kink conversations with less cautious giggling and more comfortable assumptions. Film reviews, passionate opinions about sex toys, erotic narratives, real life sex stories and overall intelligence make this a good read, even for a gay guy like me. Considering the many queer girls I know that want more real blogs for them, Sugarbutch should be a nice landing pad.

IML This Weekend!

May 18, 2009

Photobucket

OH MAN IT’S MY FAVORITE WEEKEND OF THE YEAR. International Mr. Leather is happening this (Memorial Day) weekend, and if you don’t already have leather-themed brunches planned then I don’t know what to tell you. Literally 50,000 + leather men and fetishists come to Chicago for this. TRY and go out this weekend and you’ll see the best tourists EVER.

It’s not just a beauty pageant-like contest where hairy men dressed in their best hide compete in categories like “Pecs and Stage Presence,” interview, physique and attire. It’s also a celebration of atypical body types and the freedom of sexual expression that a lot of other countries in the world do not have. By the end of the weekend, the winner cries, gets a leather sash, roses and the title of Internation Mr. Leather. For the rest of the year they get to roam around the planet getting all the booty they desire. And if the IML contest is a test for tops, The Mr. Bootblack Competition is the best of bottoms! Men and boys, all subs, compete to see who is the best at polishing boots. Serious.

If all of that seems a little formal to you, then the least you can do is enjoy the Leather Market. A craft fair for fetishists, the Market is rooms and rooms of enticing-to-frightening wares sold at reasonable prices, and it’s all about the people watching. One good moment was encountering a man in a leather body bag, and it wasn’t until my 2nd look that I realized all you could see was his scrotum hanging out, all while a “sales person” was electro-stimulating his man-sac. NICE.

A full schedule of events is located at www.imrl.com and most events are happening at the Chicago Hilton, 720 South Michigan Avenue, 312-922-4400.

Bound to Struggle

January 5, 2009

Bound to Struggle is a Chicago-based zine founded by Simon Strikeback of Actor Slash Model. It is attempting to be a place ” where kink and radical politics meet.” Volume 3 was just released and is available for purchase for $5 dollars. This zine is classicly printed and distributed via regular mail, and accepts submissions for content. The myspace asks “Does radical politics inform how you do kink? Has kink taught you ways to be a better activist or political thinker? Can the non-physical mechanics of kink (notions of consent, etc.) effect the nitty-gritty mechanics of an action bloc or campaign fight? Do conscientious ideas of environmentalism, anti-sexism, racism, able-ism, classism, gender-ism, etc. figure into the negotiating process of your scenes or relationships? How do you talk about power? Where do these ideas meet action and how do they affect our lives?” Head on over, the table of contents is listed in the blog section of the myspace.

KAISERIN

January 29, 2008

Photobucket

I admire endeavors which go against current trends. As we all know, print media is dying, if not already dead. The numbers will tell you that while people are still reading the paper, older folks have it in their hands and younger folks have it on their screens. It’s the same wordset but one costs nothing and doesn’t add to landfills. So when I’m poking around for my next find, a new half page BUTT Magazine-like art/design mag with naked scruffy men reassures me that while print will never die, it’s circulation will become smaller and more valuable. “KAISERIN: A Magazine for Boys with Problems,” is a bi-annual publication in English and French. Issue 03 is out now and people are already collecting it. With early issues of BUTT going for more than $100 on ebay, now is your chance. Need more? You already know about Girls Like Us. Kink (men) and Marikink (women) are more photos and less text for those on the go. K48 is more on the punk side of publication and usually includes a CD. The nakedness is more scarce in this one but it’s thick with visual art and they have a blog. Happy reading!
