CONTEST: Twitter Followers Get a Chance for Breeders Tix

August 4, 2009

Photobucket

A lot of blogs I follow post things about queer art, politics, music, events, etc. They also post stuff about queer icons, the argument being that as people we don’t ONLY listen to/follow queer shit. That is certainly true for me, but I’ve always reserved TPR for the non-icons; I can’t live without my allies but TPR is an oasis…by policy. So when presented with the opportunity to give away Breeders tickets, you swear I was going to say no! But the catch is that this post is about TPR’s mission and it lets you know that if you follow me (@thinkpinkradio) and send me a tweet that tells me why we need our breeder allies to fight the big gay fight, then you’ll have chance to win a pair of tix to Kim and Kelly Deal’s show at Metro on Thursday August 13th. You gotta follow, though. Contest ends Monday the 10th at 7pm. Simple!

Get Gay Married On The Radio

June 2, 2009

Photobucket

Vocalo.org is a non-profit, public radio station serving the Southside of Chicago and Northwest Indiana (89.5FM WBEW Chesterton). We are working on a marriage-centered broadcast initiative for the month of June and we want to marry a couple, live on the air. Always wanting to slant things OUR way, I am focusing all my efforts around this to find a same-sex couple to take the plunge! I think it will be a compelling, tangible way to spark dialogue about what it means/doesn’t mean to have a state-sanctioned union. For the listeners, we would have a beautiful tale of romance that legally doesn’t mean anything, and we would use it as a platform to talk about why it is so important that we all should have the same freedoms. You can help the fight for equal rights, get showered with attention AND not have to deal with actual legal consequences of saying “I Do.” IT WILL BE FUN! Vocalo.org is providing the band, the cake, an officiator…all the fixins! All you have to do is tell us your story. Details for the contest are at vocalo.org/marryme , and you can shoot me an email at thinkpinkradio(((@)))gmail.com to get the inside scoop.  You have to be in Chicago the week leading up to June 25th. SERIOUSLY LET’S DO IT.

Win Tickets To BLOWOFF This Saturday!

May 18, 2009

Photobucket

Was it coincidence? Hell no. Bob Mould (of Hüsker Du and Sugar) and Richard Morel are bringing their electro-rock-dance project to Chicago this weekend, just in time for IML! Mould started BLOWOFF in Washington D.C. as a monthly queer dance party and performance project over 5 years ago and has been a hugely successful collaboration for the two musicians. Mould brings the rock element and Morel brings the electronic beats, and BLOWOFF has had jam packed nights at Homo-A-Go-Go, The Folsom Street Fair, and now Chicago for Internaional Mr. Leather. The show is this Saturday at Metro Chicago, and if you’d like to win a free pair of tickets to the show, email me at thinkpinkradio((@))gmail.com and tell me why you love leather (or P-leather, if you are vegan). Emails must be received no later than Thursday, May 21st.

IML This Weekend!

May 18, 2009

Photobucket

OH MAN IT’S MY FAVORITE WEEKEND OF THE YEAR. International Mr. Leather is happening this (Memorial Day) weekend, and if you don’t already have leather-themed brunches planned then I don’t know what to tell you. Literally 50,000 + leather men and fetishists come to Chicago for this. TRY and go out this weekend and you’ll see the best tourists EVER.

It’s not just a beauty pageant-like contest where hairy men dressed in their best hide compete in categories like “Pecs and Stage Presence,” interview, physique and attire. It’s also a celebration of atypical body types and the freedom of sexual expression that a lot of other countries in the world do not have. By the end of the weekend, the winner cries, gets a leather sash, roses and the title of Internation Mr. Leather. For the rest of the year they get to roam around the planet getting all the booty they desire. And if the IML contest is a test for tops, The Mr. Bootblack Competition is the best of bottoms! Men and boys, all subs, compete to see who is the best at polishing boots. Serious.

If all of that seems a little formal to you, then the least you can do is enjoy the Leather Market. A craft fair for fetishists, the Market is rooms and rooms of enticing-to-frightening wares sold at reasonable prices, and it’s all about the people watching. One good moment was encountering a man in a leather body bag, and it wasn’t until my 2nd look that I realized all you could see was his scrotum hanging out, all while a “sales person” was electro-stimulating his man-sac. NICE.

A full schedule of events is located at www.imrl.com and most events are happening at the Chicago Hilton, 720 South Michigan Avenue, 312-922-4400.

Dan Savage Makes A Deal For “No On 8″

October 1, 2008

* TV ad for No On Prop 8

Not to give you TMI, but Dan Savage totally wrote me a personal response to a problem I was having. It was the third time in the 15+ years of reading his column that I had written him, and let me just say that (of course) his response was wise, considerate, honest and it worked. For two weeks, all of EVERYONE can have that same experience. His October 1st column offers all Savage Love readers a guaranteed chance to get a personal response from Dan. All you have to do is support the gay marriage initiative in California and go to noonprop8.com , and “on the left-hand side of the donation page, there’s a spot where you can indicate that you’re making your donation in someone’s honor. Type in “Savage Love,” put my e-mail address—mail@savagelove.net—in the space provided, and then send me your question in another e-mail along with the e-mail confirmation that No On Prop 8 sent you after your donation cleared. The three biggest Savage Love donors over the next two weeks get their letters in the column; everyone who makes a donation of $25 or more gets a personal reply to their question from yours truly. The cutoff dates for donations that qualify for a letter in the column are October 9 for the October 16 column, and October 16 for the October 23 column.”

GO AND DONATE!
