Butt’s Having Pride Parties

April 28, 2009

Photobucket

I can’t tell you how bad I wish I was going to be in NYC the week before Pride. BUTT magazine just announced two pre-Pride Celebrations. The first one, called BANG, will be at The Knitting Factory with performances by Salem, Hunx and His Punx, and Sissy Nobby (more on Sissy Nobby in another post). The 2nd party will be at at Terence Koh’s gallery, Asia Song Society (ASS), and it will be a queer video film fest. They have just anounced an open call for submissions, and will be accepting films until May 20th, the show opens on June 19th.

Lavender Menace

This is the kind of show I would try to curate. Having been a huge fan of all three queer bands, imagine my excitement and jealousy when I got an email about a concert on March 23rd with The Ballet, Scott Matthew, and Mkng Frnds! (UPDATE: Mkng Frndz cancelled, sorry) A one-night stand at The Bell House, this show will be a night of indie queers united by some of the best music that city has to offer. The Ballet is chamber pop, like Midlake but more consistent and healthy dash of synth. You know Scott Matthew from his on-screen performances in the movie Shortbus. Mkng Frndz has been the project of Tami Hart, a former folk-punker and Mr. Lady Records veteran. This band is lo-fi electro, and it is the coolest shit possible. (BTW, I TOTALLY made out with her new band mate on my birthday in 2004, the year of the slut). Anyhow, I wish I could go, enjoy yourselves NYC.

Scissor Sisters Played at CMJ in Disguise

October 15, 2008

Photobucket

Shit fuck me if I am not hating. Scissor Sisters played two secret shows at New York’s annual music showcase, CMJ, with a new drummer no less. Using the fake names “Debbie’s Harry” and “Queef Latina,” they even wore disguises! They did this before and it seems to be a comfortable way for them to try out new songs. Check out the set lists and some more photos after the jump. Read the rest of this entry ?

Pics From 1st Hercules & Love Affair Show Posted

While they are not touring the U.S. anytime soon, NYC was the host to Hercules & Love Affair’s first show ever. Antony was not there, but the pics at Brooklynvegan look really fun. Nomi and Kim sung Antony’s parts, Andy Butler looks sweaty and hot and I’m sure the live instrumentation made this one hell of a performance. Tour dates after the jump. Damn, can’t wait.
