Winner of season one of Rupaul’s Drag Race (didn’t watch it? your loss, total queer empowerment happening on that show) Bebe Zahara Benet’s debut single and music video is out and I gotta say, I’ma spin it. A simple title, “I’m the Shit,” repeated enough to make you believe it, is just what I need right about now. That, and her looks in the video are like a tall glass of water compared to the atrocities Lady Gaga has been spurting out (that short mannequin can go away now, thx).

Seattle’s Perfume Genius, a recent BUTT blog find, is charming in the opposite way. Understated, buried pop songs with slow, patient music videos seem like a reaction to today’s lightning speed communication culture. Firmly influenced by Angelo Badalamenti, this song “No Problem” is perfect winter music – take a pause with this warmth.
Logan Lynn’s recent album From Pillar To Post has been getting a big media push, not the least of which is this music video for the song “Bottom Your Way to the Top.” Not his strongest track, but I’m pretty stoked about the video. Filmed at Chicago’s bear bar, Touche, by local film maker Jeffrey Mchale, it also features illustrations by Chicago ex-pat John Parot.
