Jai Ho! – Queer Bollywood Night at Big Chicks

January 22, 2010

Photobucket

Not yet having a stable home, Trikone is set to deliver its latest installment of Jai Ho!, Chicago’s only queer Bollywood dance party, on Friday January 29th.  From the Facebook Event:

Trikone is committed to creating community among LGBTQ South Asians and their allies in the Chicago metro area. We welcome people of all sexual orientations, and gender identities, and of all national, racial, religious, and ethnic backgrounds to Jai Ho!

I accidentally found myself at the first one last year in July, and I gotta say it was one of the most fun nights out I have ever had in the city. The crowd was as diverse as it gets, there was a nice spread of club/fancy/traditional/sports wear, and the music went from Bollywood show stoppers to tolerable mainstream. Organizer Kareem Khubchandani curates a drag show at midnight (and performs as LaWhore Vagistan), and if you care to chat with him, he’s a complete sweetheart. This party’s proceeds go to Haiti relief, DJ Sachin spins and there is a $5 suggested donation.

Kitten LeFemme’s Top Ten Sex Blogs for 2009

December 29, 2009

Photobucket

Kitten LeFemme is a sex writer and educator living in Chicago.  She has written for UR Chicago, Poolboy magazine and is a weekly
contributor to lovelulumae.blogspot.com.

A list of my favorite sex blogs and why, in 2009, they were hotter than ever.

1) www.sugarbutch.net

Sinclair Smith has created a truly unique and truly sexy blog.   A combination of gender politics, philosophy, queer theory and smut make up the content of this hot butch’s site.  Smith writes about her real life experiences and in 2009 she started dating her girlfriend, and her lucky readers have gotten to read all about their naughty exploits as they explore their butch/femme and BDSM influenced relationship.

2) www.unspeakableaxe.com

Axe is a submissive, straight man living in New York City.  He breaks through stereotypes surrounding what it means to be straight, masculine guy and writes about his longing to do chores for and serve his lady partners.  In 2008 and early 2009, Axe was searching for a partner and his blog left the sexy and entered the sad.  Six months ago, he met the lady of his dreams and his content went from interesting to sexy to really fucking hot (literally. She put a pepper in his cock).

3) http://belledejour-uk.blogspot.com/

Belle’s blog made news earlier in the decade, when she began writing about her day to day life as an escort in the United Kingdom.  The blog led to a book, Diary of an Unlikely Call Girl, which led to a television series, Secret Diary of a Call Girl, and the blog had a long lull.  Belle has long since ceased working as an escort, but her blog was bigger than ever in the later part of 2009 because she decided to no longer be anonymous and came out to the British press as an accomplished scientific researcher.  Belle’s posts about her clients are funny and sexy but the guts that it took to come out, deal with the subsequent press frenzy and dispel myths about sex workers is really hot.

4) http://deviantdyke.blogspot.com

Author DeDe Delynn combines photos with her beautiful writing to create erotica that is as luscious as the sex she is writing about.  Her short stories and poetry spin tales of desire that feel so real that you can practically smell the sweat on the lovers’ skin. In 2008, Delynn’s writing was great; this year she seems to have tapped into her voice and has written pieces that leave the reader clutching the mouse (or um, other things).  Additionally, she writes about hot, lusty, sexy dyke sex – proving that queer women can have dirty sex, too.

5) www.luriddigs.com

I didn’t discover this blog until 2009, and it gets my award for best discovery of the year.  A photo blog with commentary from a team of sassy writers, Lurid Digs posts photos of amateur, male nudes (mostly solo) – think the kind of photo you would see in a M4M Casual Encounters ad – and critiques it.  The critique is not of the model, however.  It is of the décor.  And it is hysterical.

6) www.early2rise.net

New to the web in 2009, Early to Rise is the boy blog created by Early to Bed, a feminist owned and run sex toy store in Chicago.  In addition to news about products available at Early to Bed, Early to Rise has advice, reviews and tips for dudes.  The best part of the site is that there is info for all kinds of men: straight, bi, gay, cissexual and trans.  The writers are clever, give some pretty solid advice (the pussy licking primer is especially good) and create a space where authentic male sexuality can be discussed.

7) www.bearsimjealousof.tumblr.com

Ok.  There isn’t really a tie in with this to 2009, but I am including it in my list, because I love bears and think they deserve as much love as possible. So cute.

8) www.cutechicagoboys.com

Cute Chicago Boys isn’t an explicit sex blog, but a collection of boys that the authors have deemed to be cute, and have subsequently interviewed and photographed.  This is a new site, and I get the feeling that the authors are still finding their groove, but they are off to a good start.  They have a good mix of gay and straight and undecided, which makes up for the lack of variety in types of guys (we get it, hipster boys are dreamy).  That said, it is an adorable concept and I am looking forward to seeking what they do with the site in 2010. Confidential to Troy S: How in the world are you available?  You are gorgeous.  Totes my favorite Cute Chicago Boy.

9) www.flithygorgeousthings.com

Comprised of articles, blog entries, random confessions and beautiful photographs, Filthy Gorgeous Things is a welcome addition to the Internet sex media world.  Part blog, with weekly entries from contributors, and part literary magazine with monthly themed “issues, this site is undoubtedly both filthy and gorgeous.  The site design alone is eye candy (hint: click on the icons on the top and bottom of the page.  They bring up confessions submitted by readers. Hot.).  The writing is top notch and the photos are professional, compelling and artistic.  Oh, and the content is super dirty.  Note: some pieces require a subscription to read them, but there is plenty of free content to keep you, er, entertained.

10) http://nattnightly.wordpress.com/

Natt Nightly is a genderfuck, transmaculine writer.  He covers topics ranging from love to lust, politics to romance and everything in between.  He is making the 2009 list because of an August entry; “Challenges”.  In the post, he challenges sex writers to extend beyond wham-bam fucking stories and delve into more intimate territory.  The post is thoughtful and sexy all at once.  I hope some sex bloggers take his advice and give us even hotter material for 2010!

Latin@ Pride Picnic Saturday, June 13th

June 2, 2009

Photobucket

Yes it’s Pride Month but if all you are looking forward to is the official Parade, then you are missing some city-folk action. The parade’s really for commercials and burbies, REALLY! The people behind the Latin@ Pride Picnic have a wonderful day in Humboldt Park in store for you. From 12pm – 6pm, there will be a clown, grills, dancers, drag kings/queens, and best of all: that Latin Spice my boyfriend loves. Latino/a people and allies from all over the city come to this for a day of celebration and connecting with our brown brethren. From the press release:

Why a Latin@ Pride event you ask?? Chicago’s Latina/Latino Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer communities, recognize the need and importance of celebrating and acknowledging our diverse identities and
cultures. Most Gay Pride celebrations held in Chicago have become more commercialized and lack education about Latino LGBTQ realities, such as health, immigration or violence, and few have non-commercialized sponsors.

Peaches – Talk To Me

April 11, 2009

Photobucket

I said it before, and I’ll say it again: this might be a good time to renew your faith in Peaches. Production by Simian Mobile Disco, Soulwax, Drums of Death and a guest spot by Shunda K, May 5TH is sure to be a good day for beat-driven gender fucking. There is a really interesting mini-documentary about Peaches’ history and her vision over at peachesrocks.com. Merrill Nisker is once again leaving an off-white stain on the indie community, and I’m excited. I Feel Cream‘s songs are all over the internet if you l.o.o.k. hard enough, don’t rely on me kids. Vid for lead single “Talk To Me” below, tracklist after the jump.

Peaches Touring with Drums of Death

March 10, 2009

Photobucket

I don’t know about y’all, but these days when I hear about a new Peaches album, I get a little scared. Don’t get me wrong, the lady has done a lot for sex. As in, she has single handedly allowed hipsters to talk about it, and be a little sore when they walk the walk about it. I was able to interview her during the Fatherfucker tour, and let me tell you: she has strong vision and nothing but love for anyone with a freeness about sexuality. HOWEVER Impeach My Bush, her last record, mostly collapsed under her own weight, and I was beginning to doubt. The sounds started dating themselves, and I was worried it would be the end.  But I wouldn’t want an indie scene without her! THANK GOD she started remixing, because her remixes have been stellar. This week, it was with great relief that I read she was letting some new blood into her labia-fold, and here come Drums Of Death. Tourmates and album contributors for Peaches circa 2009, it is always good news when a veteran gets a youngsta she inspired to help out. It’s like the sexual circle if life. Drums Of Death is from the UK and released a Peaches inspired mixtape that embeds the new song “I Feel Cream,” the title track of the record (hint: some hot shit starts right around the middle and continues right at the end).

Download below, tour dates and album track list after the jump. I Feel Cream is out May 5th on XL Recordings.

I’m never sure what to do about these Myspace/Facebook things as they relate to TPR, except that I feel they should exist. After having a group for a while, I made a fan page. Won’t you become a fan? Link here.

Kanye’s Still Not Gay

February 11, 2009

Photobucket

Thanks to a few blown-out-of-context media pranks, Kanye’s sexuality has been at the top of many gossip pantries. Even TPR’s post about Terrance Dean’s book Hiding in Hip Hop, that went up ages ago, is still getting major hits. People must love them some closeted celebs! I’m not going to call it on Kanye. I do want to note that recently, he was confronted about his style and sexuality on MTV and never once did he say anything that was fearful or hateful. Of course, he was all Kanye about it, and made everything about how awesome he thinks he is, but considering how many opportunities he has had to just scream “I am not a faggot!” he’s been playing it well. The above photo got him some unnecessary shit over hanging with gay guys (you can’t be an artist and not), the below quotes are from the MTV interview. Watch the vid of his spot and the “I ain’t gay” freestyle he did on camera here. Thanks to Chicago’s best hip hop blog, Fake Shore Drive for the tip.

I’m doing a blog right now where I’ve been collecting all of the freshest stuff that’s rainbows — Denver Nuggets jerseys, BAPE shoes, Nikes with rainbows on ‘em — and saying, “Man I think as straight men we need to take the rainbow back because it’s fresh.” It looks fresh. I just think that because stereotypically gay people got such good like style that they were smart enough to take a fresh-ass logo like the rainbow and say that it’s gonna be theirs. But I was like “Man I think we need to have the rainbow” — the idea of colors , life and colors and stuff, I mean how is that a gay thing? Colors? Having a lot of colors is gay?

Sway: You once were quoted saying that you were inspired in fashion by how gay people dress.

West: And you know what? That’s when I was ignorant to gays. ‘Cause there’s a lot of gay people who don’t dress good at all. There’s a lot of gay people that I dress way better than.

Bound to Struggle

January 5, 2009

Photobucket

Bound to Struggle is a Chicago-based zine founded by Simon Strikeback of Actor Slash Model. It is attempting to be a place ” where kink and radical politics meet.” Volume 3 was just released and is available for purchase for $5 dollars. This zine is classicly printed and distributed via regular mail, and accepts submissions for content. The myspace asks “Does radical politics inform how you do kink? Has kink taught you ways to be a better activist or political thinker? Can the non-physical mechanics of kink (notions of consent, etc.) effect the nitty-gritty mechanics of an action bloc or campaign fight? Do conscientious ideas of environmentalism, anti-sexism, racism, able-ism, classism, gender-ism, etc. figure into the negotiating process of your scenes or relationships? How do you talk about power? Where do these ideas meet action and how do they affect our lives?” Head on over, the table of contents is listed in the blog section of the myspace.

Late to the Sia Party

December 6, 2008

Photobucket

So I’m real late on this one. It wasn’t until Sia’s **Auslan-infused performance on David Letterman that I even did a search, only to find that the openly bi-sexual Australian singer has pages of songs on the Hype Machine. Her song on Dave bordered on adult-contemporary, and that stage was 70′s to the max. But her voice was crazy captivating, and some stream time revealed a nice catalog of songs to pick from. Her newest record, “Some People Have Real Problems” is on sale now at itunes and her website. Holy damn, the CSS remix of “Buttons” is on repeat, download it here:

Sia–Buttons (CSS Remix)

* *The term Auslan is a portmanteau of “Australian sign language.”
