The twilight of the soaps continues! After 54 years CBS has cancelled As the World Turns. This will mean the end of Nuke, and will leave daytime with one less queer couple. As groundbreaking as the story of Nuke was in its early stages, the powers that be were just not invested enough to sustain the new and old fans that tuned in. Which is not to say that Nuke’s lack of character-driven story was the sole culprit in ATWT’s demise, but had ATWT capitalized on the non-soap fans that were tuning in for Nuke then perhaps (and that’s a BIG perhaps) that would’ve given ATWT higher ratings and bought them some more time. Instead the show had Nuke battling incestuous siblings and wasting the potential of a hot triangle when Noah’s gay professor took a special interest in him. With six months left (The show ends production in June but airs till September) ATWT still has the opportunity to give Nuke fans some classic soap story for a supercouple that just happens to be gay. Let’s hope they get it together because at this point ATWT have nothing to lose, except for Nuke’s already dwindling fanbase.
Jay Brannan (of Shortbus fame) was seen auditioning over at As The World Turns studios last week. With him being an openly gay actor/musician could this mean ATWT could be potentially looking to cast a character to foil resident gay boys, Luke and Noah? Let’s hope so! Jay Brannan in the mix with Luke and Noah would be über hot!
After being broken up because Noah caught Luke kissing face with his step-grandfather Brian ( My god, I love daytime), the boys made up and had hot raunchy wild man-sex! Seeing as their scenes focused more on their pre and post-coital bliss (maybe that’s just my imagination talking) but I’m sure it was hot! I almost fell out of my chair watching the scenes of Luke and Noah coming out of the shower! Sure if you blinked you would’ve missed it but I was still tickled pink and impressed that the writers, the sponsors, and the network finally moved forward with this! Now if only they would’ve of involved the media instead of keeping a lid on it then just maybe more viewers would’ve tuned in and gave the ratings a much needed boost. Daytime Soaps are a dying genre after all…
So the boys are getting some airtime and some trials and tribulations to face. Considering the limited airtime (and story) we’ve gotten from Luke and Noah over the last few months, I’m genuinely enjoying watching the boys deal with these new challenges (even if they’re not dealing with the big screaming horny pink elephant in the room). The kicker here though is that grandma Lucinda’s boring fiance, Brian, is an undercover brother! Look for Brian to comfort Luke during his breakdown due to Noah’s betrayal, and the two end up locking lips. Scandalous I say, and I’m luving it.
Catch Luke and Noah from the beginning! Monday July 28, 2008, As the World Turns episodes will be available for viewing on Hulu.com! (Hulu is the NNC owned online TV channel that has all the stuff that gets pulled from youtube, pretty much.) Full episodes debuting on Hulu will go as far back as June 1st 2007, which coincidentally is Noah’s first appearance in Oakdale! What a perfect time to get your “Nuke” on!!
