Not since ’04 have I DJ-ed at Chances and it’s been a serious itch that I finally get to scratch. DJs Lady Miss Navy Pier, Stinky Pinky and Butch Cassidy giving you the intense disco, pop, and dance tunes to get your rear in gear. 2011 W. North Ave., Chicago, IL. No Cover, “Chances functions as an attempt to bring together the factionalized LGBTIQ communities, cliques, or otherwise grouped-apart queers of Chicago. It happens on the third Monday of every month at Subterranean**

Random Vogue Vids I Copped From The Dishes Are Done
August 6, 2009All I can say is that I was young once and was NEVER able to do what these kids do with their bodies. EVER.
Thanks, The Dishes Are Done!

Kick Off Pride W/ Lady Bunny, Reaganomix and Stinky Pinky!
June 11, 2009
SO LUCKY to be Dj-ing alongside Reaganomix and Lady Bunny, an important icon in the queer canon. This night benefits Fish Out of Water, the Chicago-based film that will forever change the way we fight against oppressive “christians” that use the bible to shame us and justify their bigotry. Trailer for the film below.

Homofrecuencia’s 5th Annual Queer Prom
May 19, 2009
I tell this story a lot, and here goes another: My boyfriend in highschool dumped me because he was straight, and then started dating my best friend (a girl). When I found out they were going to senior prom together, I WISHED that I could have scrambled up some sort of revenge-date. A totally hot, totally unknown, totally older college boy to bring and have a Queer as Folk moment. Instead, a group of friends and I got dolled up, went for vegetarian dinner in the basement of a Harri Krishna Temple and went bowling. So WHOLESOME!
I WISH that my day had Homofrecuencia‘s Queer Prom, now in its 5th year. Successful runs with happy YOOF and do-gooding volunteers, this has turned into an annual gala for our community’s children and young adults. So damn cool, Chicago is the best fucking city. This year, the theme is “Amor sin Fronteras” (Love without borders), and comes from the idea that LGBTQ youth should have spaces where they are encouraged to express themselves, and not be limited by fear of violence for attending their school’s prom with a same-sex date or for transgressing gender expectations.
The night is happening Friday May 29 at the National Museum of Mexican Art, 1842 W. 19th Street. Tickets for this year’s Queer Prom are (by donation) $10.00 (Students/ youth), $25.00+ donations (Allies/ supporters). You can Volunteer by clicking here.
If you work at a community organization that provides resourceses relevant to LGBTQ youth, please let us know if you want to save a space at the community resource area at the prom by clicking here.

Two Videos Depicting Cute, Gay, Dancing Asian Boys
May 5, 2009Oh man, thank the gay stars for our new lives, constantly blogging and taping our every move for the world to see. Obvs, most people are boring (despite what Oprah says), but sites like this pink-your-brain are in charge of showcasing the people who are not boring: the divas in the rough, if you will. So it is with my pleasure that I post two high quality videos of cute, gay Asian boys dancing. They both have a certain degree of artful flair, the first in concept, the other in execution. I almost can’t believe the gaysian realness on display here, just more proof that visibility is power!

Wonka Ball This Thursday
May 4, 2009A little while ago, About Face Theatre dropped all pretenses and told us how bad they needed money. As Chicago’s only theatre company whose mission is to further the LGBTQ mission, this was very, very bad news. People have been donating, volunteering and even making video-testimonials as to why AFT is so important. It’s been working, too: a quick glance at the website shows that their “Face The Future” campaign has raised over $144,000, almost halfway toward their final goal. The annual Wonka Ball, AFT’s biggest fund raising gala is happening this Thursday, and luckily, it also happens to be Chicago’s best fancy party for theater loving homos. Bonnie Metzgar has done a great job so far of mobilizing the troops, and this year’s Wonka will most likely be a fun, boozy, queer call to action. This year’s party will feature a performances by the cast and band of the hit new production of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” (produced by American Theater Company in association with About Face), drag sensation Dida Ritz and the New York nouveau-nerd band “The Gay Agenda.” AFT will also be honoring Windy CIty Times editor Tracy Baim for 25 years worth of excellent journalism. I’m excited!

Trailer Pilot and Darrell Jones at NEXT
April 30, 2009
It’s incredible how an art experience can leave you different than you were before. If you are someone that might dance a little to your ipod on the train, or can’t put a good book down, you might want to try performance as your next step. A truly three dimensional experience, beautiful movers on a professional stage can leave a mark that you’ll want to show to your friends. This weekend, the inimitable Shirley Mordine Dance Theater is putting on quite a little dance show, and you’d be missing out if you don’t get yourself over to Epiphany Epischopal Church. Local choreographer Darrell Jones, known for his high-concept piece about ball and vogue culture, Third Swan From the Left, is showing a duet with Lisa Gonzales that both taps your funny bone and addresses identity. Trailer Pilot, or my illustrious boyfriend Zachary Whittenburg, takes on a love triangle with a sensitive eye, all the while showcasing his love for traditions in movement. The pews at Epiphany are arranged around the middle of the church, the dancers are at eye-level. This is no ordianary night out; one of the many times I feel blessed to live in Chicago. With six dance pieces in all, tickets for NEXT are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. You can get a $5 dollar discount at seechicagodance.com and there are a limited amount of 2 for 1 specials when you text “mordine” to 30364. Epiphany is at 201 S. Ashland Ave, Friday and Saturday at 8pm, Sunday at 730pm.
