Secular Humanist Alliance of Chicago
April 20, 2010
Last night was the third meeting of the Secular Humanist group I’m co-founding with NonProphet Status, and we finally have a name! Soon enough, you’ll be hearing more about the Secular Humanist Alliance of Chicago, or SHAC. We are meeting every other Monday, and still gathering our collective thoughts to come up with a mission statement. As soon as we do that, there will be a blog, a mailing list, events, and hopefully you! Our membership, so far small but enthusiastic, has already grown to twice the size it was for the first meeting. In our discussions, we’ve come up with ideas for community service, providing camaraderie and an open, safe space, collaborating with other secular and non-secular groups. Stay tuned! If you want to know more about Secular Humanism, check out the Council For Secular Humanism, or the book Good Without God, by Greg Epstein.

Hello, was googling Chicago humanists and found this post. I’m a grad student at Northwestern who’s interested in getting involved. I’d love to learn more. Thanks!
This is pretty funny. My wife and I are laying the ground work for founding a club here at Santa Monica College in Los Angeles, and we wanted to call it The Secular Humanist Alliance. I googled the name to see if we weren’t already stepping on someone’s toes and here we are lol.
I would like to extend an offer of collaboration, i have written a rough draft of our own mission statement if you would like to consider having a sister chapter on the west coast: SHALA- the Secular Humanist Alliance of Los Angeles
