Grumpy Films, a Brooklyn-based film company has been hitting it out of the park with their ‘Short Shorts’ series. A smirky tone reminiscent of the best sketch comedy (think Benny Hill without the sexism, or MAD TV without the filler), they always pull off a setting and mood distinctly their own. Head on over to their site and their youtube channel for more.

New Microfilm EP features Scissor Sisters’ Del Marquis
October 8, 2009
Portland’s Microfilm have just released their 2nd EP of 2009, ‘Blips Don’t Lie’, a six-track teaser with special guests. Containing three original new songs and three remixes, the EP features the vocals and guitars of Scissor Sisters’ Del Marquis and Black Box Recorder singer Sarah Nixey. The sound here is really late 80′s/early 90′s synth, deep and acid house, and I’m happy about this new harken-back-to-my-youth trend that is happening in dance circles (not the rave-till-I-die stuff tho). Check out the track for download below and head over to their main site for info on purchasing!!

Playgirl’s Hunkercise
October 7, 2009YYYYYYYEEEEEESSSSSSS (Prob not SFW)
…….and the remix:
So, right about 0:41, the woman in the blue suit’s crotch. Admittedly, I haven’t seen many ciss girl’s bodies up close and personal, but how come only women from the ’80s had that kind of pelvic area? I mean, it’s totally possible that a woman today, given the same suit, could look like that. I don’t know, though.

Electrosexual
October 7, 2009
So it was way back in about 2005 when TPR was in its infancy and actually a real radio show on a real radio station and Ali and I didn’t sometimes know what to do with all the demos we received in the mail, when we got a CD (or was it a tape?) from Electrosexual. It wasn’t just his, but there were SO MANY terrible musics that we got in the mail, that after a certain point, we stopped feeling bad if we didn’t play them. BUT, Berlin-based Electrosexual actually offended me. F-bombs, possibly N-bombs, lots of sexual violence and really juvenile artwork; not only was it funny to think that someone thought it could be played on the radio, but it also got me thinking that there was ignance to be dealt with, even amongst our own. Fast forward to today, and I got an email from Electrosexual, and it was still from “Sleazeland” and still filled with typos, however the music was way better. I do drink the haterade but I’ll always be open to change. There is a full length in the works called ‘Devolution’ featuring Shunda K, Scream Club, and others. Let’s hope it lives up and I don’t regret this post. Soundcloud has some mp3′s to download, if you are into it, I’m liking the hard synths and clean edits so far.

Free Lecture by M.C. Schmidt of Matmos
October 7, 2009
Chicago’s getting a free public talk by Martin Schmidt of Matmos next week! Part of Gallery 400‘s arts exhibition space at the University of Illinois at Chicago, this is sure to be nerd central with probably annoying questions by pseudo intellectual hipsters, but I can’t stay away from Martin’s mormon-suit realness! Tuesday, October 20th at 5pm, Art and Design Hall, First Floor, 400 S. Peoria Street (at Van Buren Street) 312-996-6114.

New Hawnay Troof

Seems like there is always new Hawnay Troof to blog about. Daggers at the Moon, his new album is out this month, and huge tour is in the works. The new song, “Body Armageddon” has his trademark energy, with aggressive rapping over what sounds like a mashy, bootleg Bollywood tape. Good stuff! Tour dates after the jump.

New Orleans Linebacker Speaks Out For Equality
October 7, 2009

“They call me the Pinko Communist Fag from Berkeley. I’m used to it. I can take it all.”
Usually, professional athletes wait until they retire until they do this, read the touching, honest interview with Scott Fujita about being adopted, gay marriage, and homophobia in the locker room here.
