This Saturday, October 3rd, Women & Children First celebrates its 30th Anniversary with a party and benefit. Featuring special guests Alison Bechdel and Dorothy Allison, it’s all happening at The Breakers in Edgewater Beach. There is a cocktail party 5:30 -7 p.m with a buffet and dance 7-10 p.m. 5333 N. The buffet and dance feature food from many of Andersonville’s top restaurants, and a live and silent auction (the incomparable Dorothy Allison has kindly agreed to be our live auction caller), where guests will be able to bid on a 3-hour visit to the set of Showtime’s “United States of Tara”, donated by Producer Jill Soloway; a This American Life gift pack, autographed and donated by Ira Glass; a private tour for 4-6 friends of New York Times bestselling author Jane Hamilton’s apple orchard, a week-long Michigan woodland retreat, an original drawing of your pet by legendary cartoonist Nicole Hollander, and many more wonderful, unique items, including numerous signed books by many of our favorite feminist authors (Isabel Allende, Sarah Waters, Achy Obejas, Judy Chicago, Holly Near, Alix Olson…). Burlesque performances by Candyland and Ms. Bea Haven, and a set of the best classic disco, soul, R&B, and indie dance music, spun by DJ SpinNikki, round out the night.

The cocktail party includes a private wine tasting with “Check, Please!” host and Master Sommelier Alpana Singh and a conversation tracing 30-years of recording feminist culture in cartoons between “Sylvia” creator Nicole Hollander and “Dykes to Watch Out For’s” Alison Bechdel.

Cocktail Party Tickets cost $100 and include the cocktail party and the buffet and dance. Tickets for the buffet and dance only are $60. Reduced price tickets are available – call the store for details. 773-769-9299.
