Early Warning: Nicole Kidman in The Danish Girl
March 2, 2009
I’m not sure about this. The blogs are buzzing though, and if it’s true we need to hope for the best. Nicole Kidman, going the way of Felicity Huffman, will be playing the role of Lili Elbe in the upcoming movie, The Danish Girl. Lili Elbe is one of, if not THE first documented transwoman that underwent a series of highly experimental surgeries to transition. For context, this was in the early 1900′s, so you can imagine what she went through. I’d love to be excited, what with Charlize Theron being tapped for Elbe’s partner, but when was the last time a Kidman-project didn’t bore me to death? And the description of the plot over at IMDB sounds white washed in order to squeak by Focus-on-the-Family-Trolls. To echo Antony, why couldn’t they find a real transwoman for this? Oh yeah, the money and hype and possibly a latest attempt to revive a startling downturn in Kidman’s career. I’m all about visibility, but at a time when even the gay community can display unruly amounts of trans-phobia, these stories should not be told by hungry hollywood whores, you know?
