Throbbing Gristle On Tour

February 4, 2009

After announcing a set a Coachella, there is a limited amount of dates that you can catch Throbbing Gristle on tour this spring. Led by out-there-queer Genesis P-Orridge, TG has not been around the states since 1981, and so much has happened since then. Genesis had a tragic incident in 2007 when his artistic and life partner Lady Jaye died suddenly. The pair had been in the midst of a spiritual union through surgery–essentially, they had been undergoing operations to become twins (I’m willfully reducing this for the sake of brevity, you can read all about it here). In any case, sometimes the personal stuff can overshadow the band’s music, which should not be underestimated in terms of influence. Wikipedia: “In the 1960s and early 1970s Throbbing Gristle, which dealt with subjects such as prostitution, pornography, serial killers, and occultism, generated controversy.” Tour dates and all that other good stuff after the jump.

Ted Faggard

TPR is not amused. If you aren’t checking CNN or watching Larry King, Ted Haggard is an evangelical preacher who was stripped of duties in 2006 for admitting sex with a male prostitute. He’s in the news again because another man (that his church payed to keep quiet) threatened to come forward about their sexual relationship because there is a new documentary “The Trials of Ted Haggard.” UGH FUCKING UGH. If this isn’t the newest edition of the ex-gay movement, I don’t know what is. Haggard and his wife won’t shup up about how satisfying their sex life is and his therapy. He mentions labels and how the “boxes don’t work for him,” and you know what, Ted? You are right. The boxes don’t work because you are a fucking faggot-sphere that spins right round, baby, right round like a goddam broken record, and all the forced sex with your wife won’t wipe away the brown colored ring around your queer-ass mouth. If the world wasn’t watching, this wouldn’t be such a bid deal, but the post-Prop 8 timing and the publicity stunting is so crystal clear.

No More Potlucks

*Catherine Opie

So many times in my gay life have I wished to live in Canada. Icka Prick & Iron Pussy keeps me updated on the goings on up there, and does so very well. Many posts about sex-work and off the radar shit happening in smarter upper half of North America, and I hope to visit again soon. This week, IP&IP pointed me to this dope interview with Catherine Opie at nomorepotlucks.org, another fierce Canadian queer “journal of politics, arts, and culture.” With NMP’s streamable Dyke on Mykes podcasts, media section dedicated to queer arts and music, NMP is a definitley a resource for queer women. The first issue is up now. Go.
