Against a Trans Narrative
November 19, 2008
In light of the recent execution-style murder of Duanna Johnson, I want to remind everyone that as hard as it is for gays and lesbians, it is much, much tougher for the trannies. While we fight for marriage, a lot of trans-folk are just trying get acknowledgment. It is with great sadness that I read about Johnson’s tragic death, not too much else to say about it. Against A Trans Narrative is a film by Jules Rosskam:
Sitting somewhere between fiction, non-fiction, and experimental film genres. It is as fragmented and complicated as its subject matter. The audience is presented with disparate narrative, home videos, dramatic reenactments, poetry and round-table conversations where people discuss their reactions to the issues presented in the film.
The film analyzes the construction of trans-masculine communities inside the larger cultural framework.
