Lesbian Supercouple Hitting Daytime

September 22, 2008

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Watch out Luke and Noah, there’s another queer couple hitting daytime! All My Children is bringing back Eden Reigel to reclaim her role as daytime’s first lesbian diva, Bianca Montgomery. If that wasn’t enough AMC has lured daytime fan favorite Tamara Braun (ex-Carly from General Hospital, ex-Ava from Days of our Lives) to play Bianca’s girlfriend!!!! The dish is that Bianca returns from her sabbatical in France, with new girlfriend Reese joining her a few weeks later! Now in the past AMC never shied away from showcasing Bianca with her girlfriends (hugging, kissing, in bed), so more of the same should be expected. Lets hope As the World Turns steps up their game (Luke and Noah have kissed like twice u swear!!!!) now that their gaytime throne has been challenged!

Mydebates.org

September 18, 2008

A new site has just gone live that can really help you cut through the shit for the upcoming debates. The tool lets you find out more about which issues are important to you, learn where each candidate stands on those issues, then decide who best represents your interests. Then, and this may be the coolest part, once each debate happens, the tool will pull video snippets for you (from that debate) based on which issues you’re most interested in. So you can watch the whole debate, but, also, if for example “Iraq” were your key issue, any time Obama or McCain mention it, your tool will populate with video snippets of their mention of it, so you can review exactly what they said about it, to again decide who is best addressing your concerns.

Head over to mydebates.org and inform yourself.

Debate Schedule:

September 26, 2008: Presidential debate with domestic policy focus, University of Mississippi, Oxford, MS (Tickets)
October 2, 2008: Vice Presidential debate, Washington University, St. Louis, MO (Tickets)
October 7, 2008: Presidential debate in a town hall format, Belmont University, Nashville, TN (Tickets)

TPR #6 — Camp Trans, Punk Bands and Family Strands

September 17, 2008

Photobucket

While this podcast stuff is a LOT more work, we are enjoying being out-and-about way more than sitting in a booth. This week, Erik talks to the cutest transman about going to Camp Trans and what he learned. Listen about why it’s not okay to say “lame” as a negative adjective! Also, Ruth and I sit around her coffee shop and talk about being young and in a band, and why we hate Jason Steele, the “Boy on Boystown” from the Red Eye. Also, Erik checks out hot guys. This post also features the song “Family Tree” from the upcoming TV on the Radio album, Dear Science, out on September 23rd.

All the Hip Hop Blogs Are Talking About Q-Tip’s Homophobia

September 16, 2008

Photobucket
*Sorry I Had A Perez Moment

Reported via the Reader’s Crickets, there are more than a few hip hop blogs talking about the song “Georgie Porgie,” the original version of what is now known as Tribe Called Quest’s “Show Business” from the record Low End Theory (1991). My favoritely titled blog, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold This Sac, says “For real, they are pretty much gay bashing all over this one (pause, no homo).”

Needless to say, if this had been released, Tribe might not be known as “Without question the most intelligent, artistic rap group during the 1990s…” from (allmusic.com).

If you want to listen, here it is:

Taylor Mac Coming to Chicago

September 14, 2008

Photobucket
About Face Theatre remains the hottest, most important avenue for queer theatre in Chicago.

“In 1968, while stationed in Vietnam, Lt. Robert Mac (Taylor’s father) placed an ad asking “young ladies” to write him. Thousands replied. Renowned playwright/actor/songwriter/director/visual artist/pastiche performer/activist Taylor Mac juxtaposes his father’s conservative army life with his own as a drag/pastiche artist in New York in this provocative performance.”

The show runs Friday, September 26 through Sunday, October 26, 2008 at 7:30pm at the Center on Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted. See aboutfacetheatre.com for tickets!
