“La Corona” Premieres in Chicago
September 18, 2008
Threat Level: An Evening of Queer Shorts, a bi-monthly screening of queer short films, will host the Chicago premiere of Oscar-nominated “La Corona” (The Crown). Directed by Amanda Micheli and Isabel Vega, the film is up for Best Documentary Short at the 80th Annual Academy Awards®, and also won an honorable mention from the Shorts Jury at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. La Corona tells the story of a beauty pageant held inside a Columbian women’s prison. (In Spanish with English subtitles.)
The evening’s program, “In Between Bread and Butter”, is curated by television editor (and former Chicagoan) Stacy Goldate (“Cities of the Underworld,” “The Mole”). The program features short films and videos by queer directors working full-time in the television and film industry.
