The Organ’s Final (posthumous) EP

September 30, 2008

Photobucket

The Organ was so great, and I won’t ever be okay with their break up. The combination of Smiths’ guitars and Debbie Harry vocals was just as good as you wanted it to be. OH FUCKING WELL. After one album and breaking up in late 2006, we thought it would be the last we would ever hear from them. BUT on October 14th, the last EP, entitled “Thieves,” will be released by Mint Records. Five songs intended for the 2nd record are collected and packaged for our listening pleasure, if only to think about what could have been. You already know about the members’ new projects, so let’s just decide to be okay for now.

Well, okay not really. But I’m glad that some drag queen stepped up to the plate. The complete, NSFW photos of Palin’s unexpected campaign stop over at The Sword. I wonder if she took any polls!

JD Samson Remixes CSS

September 29, 2008

Photobucket

Adding a slice of Salt-N-Pepa type rhythm in the beginning and some MEN-like beats in there, I am so happy to report that JD is taking her remixing seriously. Copped it (affectionately) from I Heart Comix.

Enjoy!

Wang’s Happening Again This Friday

September 29, 2008

Photobucket

Let me explain. After the first one, the owners were a little overwhelmed. Having packed the place like it had never been packed, and staying open WAY past closing time, there was a pause-in-party. Pinksters will have to, for the time being, stay tuned in for updates. When the party is happening, loyal TPR listeners and readers will be the first to know. Until Wang’s headquarters can organize the shizz, it’ll be super secret and extra exclusive. So exciting! It’s like guerrilla fanfare! And Wang’s will stay open as long as the drinks are flowing and the place is popping. There you have it. Please join us this Friday.

September 28, 2008

Not too surprising, since both of them are doing the solo thing right now. Still waiting on Jeppe’s follow up to his superb 1st song, but the myspace made it official. The above video is a never released 10 min clip Jeppe did from the vault when we recorded ‘Hey Hey My My Yo Yo’ Good times. Read the full R.I.P. statement after the jump. Keep with Jesper Jr. at myspace.com/iscreamicecreamrocks and Jeppe Sr. at myspace.com/jeppe

If you do a search for the word “googlegänger,” you’ll find this NY Times article about how the information age has made it possible to find everyone who has the same name as you. Beyond a simple curiosity, some people actually keep up with the namesake’s activities and even contact them. Local photographer Sean Fader seems to be very interested in how one can be find different versions of themselves all over the place: your family, your room, the computer. For “Googlegängers,” Sean went and found pairs of eponymous people and photographed them to illustrate their fundamental differences. The project was selected as a Curator’s Choice in the Professional Division Category for the 2008 Chicago Art Open! The show will be open from October 3rd- 19th at the Merchandise Mart. The Opening Benefit Party is happening on October 3, 6-10 pm and will have food, drinks and a closing performance by The Thin Man.

For tickets, and information about volunteering, go to the site.
Opening Benefit Ticket Price: $25 in advance, $30 at the door

Fish Out Of Water’s Preview Party

September 27, 2008

Photobucket

Think Pink has been supporting Ky Dickens and her documentary project for a while, and we are happy to report the film is its final stages. If, like me, you have an ignorant family member that throws jesus around for the sake of hate, this film is for US. To celebrate they are having a preview party and fundraiser on October 11th at Mary’s Attic. From the press release:

Fish Out of Water is a documentary that seizes the issue of homosexuality and the Bible. With a cartoon narrator, animated historical clips and quirky interviews taken from barbershops to truck stops, the film uncovers why certain rhetoric is pumped from the pulpit and how it can tear apart families and blindside elections.

The party is Saturday, October 11th at Mary’s Attic in Andersonville (5400 N. Clark Street, Chicago). At 6:30pm, Chicago’s famed Miki Greenberg will be playing a live cabaret set. Complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served. An exclusive 20-minute Sneak Peek of the film and talk back with filmmakers will conclude the Preview Party, followed by a Post Party with Think Pink Radio’s DJ Stinky Pinky at 9:00pm. Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door. You can buy tickets in advance here. If you are a student or feel financially strapped, please contact Ky and she will send you the link to purchase a discounted tickets. We encourage you to do so as we want the event to be accessible to all who wish to attend!

If you cannot attend the event, but wish to contribute, all donations are welcome, needed and appreciated! Every little bit counts as we try to cross the finish line. You can donate with a credit card or debit card by going to the pay pal link at our website: http://www.fishoutofwaterfilm.com/donate.html

Devendra Banhart Comforting His Aching Heart With Another Man

September 26, 2008

Photobucket

Seriously, I guess he broke up with that actor and his new band Megapuss gets pretty gay. Normally, I don’t get to into his whole hippie thing (that split 7″ he did with Xiu Xiu was alright) but when he’s rastlin’ naked with another jesus-looking dude on his album art and he has a song called “Adam and Steve” on it, I just pay a little more attention. Pitchfork has the FULL NSFW pics.

Darrell Jones Tonight and This Fall

September 26, 2008

Photobucket

Since the 2nd and final time (this season) that Darrell Jones will be performing “Traitor,” a collaboration with Lisa Gonzales is tonight, you might not have a chance to get over there. Which is a shame, as the choreographer behind “Third Swan From the End” has his stamp all over it.

In “Third Swan,” there was an emotional duet between him and another man, and the aggressive tug, tender pull and final push of strong interpersonal relationships is still on his mind. And while here, Lisa Gonzales represents a more crystallized feminine side (and provides needed comedy), the story get gets queer in the most unexpected way. Right when you thought that Jones was playing it straight, you realized he was just playing you.

You’ll have another chance to see Jones this fall, when he previews a sextet called “Whiff of Anarchy,” a full length piece about mob mentality.

“Traitor” runs Thu-Fri 9/25-9/26, 7:30 PM, Hamlin Park field house, 3035 N. Hoyne, 800-838-3006 or brownpapertickets.com, $12-$15. “Whiff of Anarchy” previews Tue 10/28, 6 PM, and Sat 11/8, 3 PM, at Loyola University Museum of Art in conjunction with its exhibit “Art of Democracy,” 820 N. Michigan, 312-915-7600, $5 nonmembers. It premieres 2/19-2/21/09, Thu-Sat 8 PM, Dance Center of Columbia College, 1306 S. Michigan, 312-344-6600, $24-$28.
