Third Swan From The End
March 4, 2008
In September 2007, when Darrell Jones presented “Third Swan From The End,” a modern dance piece about vogue culture, he was out to educate people about how vogue was and is worlds apart from Madonna’s glossy gay posing. In an evening length work that made parallels with what you learn at a vogue ball and how you present yourself during the day, “Third Swan” went through it coupling fierce battles and intimate connection. A dramatic soundtrack mixing house beats and movie audio clips worked with flashy, innovative choreography for an inspiring evening that illustrated Jones’ relationship with the words “black” and “gay.” This weekend at Links Hall, Jones remounts “Third Swan” in a condensed version in preparation for a summer tour.
Links Hall is on the NE corner of the six-way intersection of Sheffield Avenue, Clark Street, and Newport Street. For performances, please find the entrance at 956 Newport.
