Oh man, expect lots of myspace bulletins soon!! Cindy Wonderful and her cohort Sarah Adorable are coming to your town this Spring for a full blown North American tour. You’ve already heard their collab with Peaches, the hysterical “Fine As Fuck” featuring some of Wonderful’s sexiest word slinging. Check out their show in a town near you, it looks like queer core’s punk rock MC’s are getting local homo-fied bands in each city to open for that local flava. Florida’s leg is lucky enough to get Shunda K of Yo Majesty. Woo Hoo! Scream Club is looking to round out their tour and needs your help to fill out some holes in their schedule (all dates after the jump.). They’re also looking for DJ’s! Check out their myspace and let them know if you are available. Their record label, Crunks Not Dead is always doing mail order too, featuring releases by Johnny Dangerous, Joey Casio, and Making Friendz!!
You better believe this show will be something you can’t get away from when it debuts this summer on Logo. Playwright Del Shores, is writing/directing/producing a prequel to the play and movie of the same name that is sure to be scandalous in that southern way that has appeal. Check out these previews and the finalized cast after the jump.
The NY Times recently had a story about Andre J, a bearded diva who made the cover of French Vogue. Proving once again that France is way better than us and always will be, I wished I lived in France.
“Andre J. does not consider himself a cross dresser. Except to the extent each of us getting dressed assumes some kind of persona, his style is not drag. He is not a person in regard to whom the prefix “trans-” obtains. It is simply that Andre J., who was raised in a loving single-mother household in a housing project in Newark with the uplifting name Academy Spires, is in no sense confined by the conventions of gender.”
Starting March 31st, Stereogum will have a song-by-song tribute to Bjork’s groundbreaking 2nd solo album “Post.” “Enjoyed” has an impressive who’s who of indie rockers is on the list (see below). I know this eclectic record infused my adolescent gayness with beats and piqued my curiosity for artier/electronic interests, so it’s no wonder we see so many fellow gays up in here: Atlas Sound, Xiu Xiu and Final Fantasy w/ Ed Droste all contribute. Like the R.E.M. and Radiohead albums Stereogum did in the past, these will be downloadable for a limited time only. Below are some tracks from the R.E.M. tribute that you might be interested in (maybe).
Finally! And judging from the amount of people searching for Peaches’ “Pleasure Seekers Remix,” CSS’s “Extended Remix” and the Scissor Sisters’ “Witches at the Wet Seal Mix,” there are people dying for these hip, extra queer treatments of an already gay song. SO far, I think the Peaches take is the best as she really makes it her own. To tell you the truth, CSS yawns through this one and the blown out Ibiza/white party vibe on the Sisters’ turn is a bit much. Think you can get these puppies here for free? No Way. Blogs that have dared have already gotten the smack down, not even a day later. The entire Funplex EP is only $2.50 on itunes, buy some music for a change.
Here are some screen caps for an instructional video that was made by Miranda July and Saul Levitz on how to make buttons. It is really cute, funny in subtle ways and worth your minutes.
For the first time in 10 years, Tobi Vail, of Bikini Kill fame, will be drumming on a new record. The Old Haunts’ third, Poisonous Times, will be released on Kill Rock Stars, (duh) on April 8th. Yup, none other than the nice lady that sends you the KRS email updates is in charge of beats. More gritty, garage punk that was here way before Times New Viking is on its way, and judging from the first single “Volatile,” we are going to have fun. Here is the new single and some old favorites while you wait till April.
Nico–I’ll Keep It With Mine(PocketKnife’s Odd Beauty Remix)
Kaki King–Pull Me Out
Queen–Long Away
Cat Power–Blue

Tegan and Sara–Burn Your Life Down
Hercules & Love Affair–Classique #2
Portishead–Deep Water

Vera November–Red Dream
Crystal Castles–Courtship Dating
Paradise Island–Got A Light
Lykke Li–I’m Good, I’m Gone (live at SXSW)
Hirsute seems to be made up of the cutest queers in NYC. Michael O’Neill, formerly of Princess, now plays in The Lady Bug Transistor and the Ballet and now he’s in this band. JD Samson, is well, you know JD. Ginger Brooks Takahashi and Emily Roysdon round out this new quartet that focuses “on the energy of live performance and the radical potential of dance music. [They are] currently developing a live stage show that transcends traditional boundaries of performance art, live music and visual art.” It’s a bit early to tell what direction this will take, but their three myspace songs are ambitious in a positive way. “wwwboomboomboom” is particularly energized. Head over and tell em Think Pink Radio sent you!
Australian based Kate Cooper is a busy, talented, lady. Her band Iron On hits a satisfying spot in a place that normally get ejected these days: indie rock. Let’s face it, boy fronted, Death Cab-biting jingle jangle rock bands are crawling all over each other on blogs and magazines alike. Iron On touches on dissonant Rainer Maria-type melodies with a sensitive Promise Ring-y guitar crunch that reminds us that rock isn’t dead, just going through another regrouping phase. “One Man Band,” and “Snow” are what I am talking about. Cooper’s side gig An Horse is touring with Tegan & Sara this spring. That puts them in an advantageous position to get some more exposure, and possibly turn An Horse into her main focus. They have an EP called “Not Really Scared” coming out April 12th on Valve/MGM records. We need more female fronted indie rock, don’t you think? A couple of tracks below.
