Magnetic Fields’ Distortion Out Today

After a glowing review on Pitchfork and much anticipation from Stereogum and the gays, the new Magnetic Fields record will surely get some attention this year. In a recent interview with Merritt, he talks about his Jesus and Mary Chain fetish and we can see how the past four years experimenting in scoring musicals, books and side projects have allowed his main act to return to their indie pop roots. It’s a good thing, people–no one can hook, line and sink you into a three minute song like Merritt. A disc full of them is nothing to take lightly. Distortions is out on Nonesuch records, is streaming for a limited time on their myspace, and if you’re lucky, you can catch them in a residency near you this spring (Mp3 here and dates after the jump).
