Activist and Friend Lisa Tonna

On January 8th, LGBT community activist, Lisa Tonna passed away after an eleven-month battle with lung cancer. This article in the Windy City Times lists just some of her accomplishments.

Fellow activist, comedian and friend of Lisa, Jessica Halem, said it best:

If you knew Lisa, you know how special she was and I hope you will join us this Saturday morning to remember her. If you are a queer person living in Chicago (and beyond), you benefited from her gifts and I hope you will join us to thank her, even if you didn’t know her personally. She was a tireless activist as well as an amazing friend. She will be missed and should be thanked.

Lisa’s family, friends, students, colleagues and community will gather on Saturday, January 12 from 9:30 AM until 11:30 AM.

Location: University of Illinois at Chicago
Student Services Building (SSB)
1200 W. Harrison Street
Conference Rooms B & CNW corner of Racine and Harrison

Parking: Harrison street parking structure–1100 W. Harrison–flat
rate of $6.50 (about a block east of the SSB)

Public Transportation: Racine exit on the Blue Line

Schedule:
9:30 – 10:00 Gather, sign memory book, post photos
10:00 – 10:30 Service of Celebration
10:30 – 11:30 Testaments of Love (those who wish to speak at the microphone will be invited to do so at this time) and breakfast courtesy of Ann Sather.

  1. i’m so sorry to hear of her passing. I remember her benefit last summer at Sidetrack, what an amazing person and amazing spirit! Thanks for posting Amy…

    ps: everyone please contribute to the fund, even if its just a few dollars. It’s much needed and will help Lisa’s family tremendously!
