One of my favorite things is when one of my favorite porn blogs gets serious and posts something about politics. It’s grounding and comforting knowing that in the middle of a scroll ‘n jerk, one can make a difference. My slick suit loving, porn-art showing, Titan media covering Roids and Rants (NSFW) did just that and had this to say about the most recent tragic treatment of queer youth in Iran:

On January 23rd, 2008, Hamzeh Chavi and Loghman Hamzehpour, two homosexual young men of 18 and 19, were arrested in Sardasht, in Iranian Azerbaijan. The authorities use physical and psychological torture to obtain confessions from people who fall into their hands, and the two young men admitted to being in love and having a relationship. Their confession was enough for the Islamic court to commit them to trial with two very serious charges: Mohareb, the crime of those who are “enemies of Allah” and Lavat, sodomy. Iranian criminal law prescribes hanging for homosexuals, who are considered “enemies of Allah”.

You can sign a petition for the lives of Hamzeh and Loghman to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on the site of EveryOne organization.

Amber Hawk-Swanson’s Doll

Sex TV Canada recently profiled Chicago multi-media artist Amber Hawk-Swanson and her work with Amber Doll, a silicone replica (a Real Doll) of herself. The artist’s website (www.amberhawkswanson.com) features a video including entertaining bits of Amber and Amber Doll’s wedding reception and disturbing footage of Amber Doll tailgating at a Bears/Packers game (drunk “dudes” at a football game + a Real Doll = scary). The ways in which people react to and interact with Amber Doll reveals much about them, and perhaps even their views of women in general?

Hercules and Love Affair Video for ‘Blind’

Seriously. How happy am I about this song? From the Frankie Knuckles Remix to the constant and consistent bloggery to the overall Nina Simone-ness of Antony’s vocal–it just doesn’t get any better than this. All that and finally the hipsters will stop being confused when I drop some disco in an electro set. DFA couldn’t have asked for a better hype machine than this.

I admire endeavors which go against current trends. As we all know, print media is dying, if not already dead. The numbers will tell you that while people are still reading the paper, older folks have it in their hands and younger folks have it on their screens. It’s the same wordset but one costs nothing and doesn’t add to landfills. So when I’m poking around for my next find, a new half page BUTT Magazine-like art/design mag with naked scruffy men reassures me that while print will never die, it’s circulation will become smaller and more valuable. “KAISERIN: A Magazine for Boys with Problems,” is a bi-annual publication in English and French. Issue 03 is out now and people are already collecting it. With early issues of BUTT going for more than $100 on ebay, now is your chance. Need more? You already know about Girls Like Us. Kink (men) and Marikink (women) are more photos and less text for those on the go. K48 is more on the punk side of publication and usually includes a CD. The nakedness is more scarce in this one but it’s thick with visual art and they have a blog. Happy reading!

Lewd Shrewd

Regardless of how any of us feel about Senator Larry Craig I am excited to see that he has received backing from the ACLU. In a statement on the organization’s website, the group is supporting his attempts at withdrawing his guilty plea, under the argument that the laws which allowed for his arrest were unconstitutionally broad. In a press release, the organization argues that the law “has the potential to ensnare and criminalize legal, constitutionally protected free speech, including solicitation for private sex.”

The ACLU’s stance is admirable and paves the way for repealing anti-gay, sex negative entrapment practices used by law enforcement across the country. As the ACLU points out, “courts have found that a closed bathroom stall is a private location. The police have no business spying on people in places where there is an expectation of privacy.”

PSYCHO FAG: More Petite Than Others

There comes a time in a person’s life where you realize that there are other adults in the world that are really young. Full grown youngstas where their youth is the primary reason you just don’t get it, and…that’s okay. The fiery, quick-twink rap that PSYCHO FAG spits is nimble and brazen like a pocket ninja and as you can see, his fellow U.K. kids dig it. Fully challenging ears too old for that which is too loud, the production is competent and edgy, giving this queer grime a chance to impress before you realize that everyone else in the room looks like a fashionable child. Vintage is Futuristic

The sass masters over at tinyflowers.com have posted a few images of recently auctioned vintage condom tins. It’s interesting to see how these little rain coats made for “storms” to come were marketed before AIDS. Just from the packaging, you can tell the emphasis was on discretion–mostly the 3 to a tins were designed without any mention of what was inside. I’m sure out favorite queer electro-queen would love the one below. Check out the surprising auction prices and be safe, homos!!

“Búscate Un Novio” Means “Super Way Cool” In Spanish

Actually, no. It means “get yourself a boyfriend,” or “look for a boyfriend.” But also, it is the name of the coolest blog I’ve found in a while. AND I spend a silly amount of time online: quality time for my boyfriend and I is sitting next to each other with our laptops sharing cool links and sites, so while I’ve already found one a guy pal, I’m still impressed with Búscate. Seemingly based in Spain (sorry, gringos-no English to be had anywhere on the site), there’s a can’t be missed girl-boner for feminism in rock and roll. Plenty of queer highlights, also new and old, famous through way too cool to have been heard of before mp3′s by female fronted punk and pop bands. Can you think of anything that beats that?
