The Shondes

December 22, 2007

Photobucket

Taking their name from the Yiddish word for “shame” or “disgrace,” Brooklyn based The Shondes build a sound based in a love for early Sleater-Kinney and the need to incorporate strings. Their queer-core roots are buoyed by intentional additions of their heritage, namely being (self-described) loud Jews. It really works, and their combination of punk and tradition makes for something that is neither and both. They have been on tour for all of December (in Chicago this Sunday, December 23rd at Schubas w/ Actor Slash Model) and it’ll culminate with the release of their second record The Red Sea on January 8th. Check out their myspace for some preview tracks and early Mp3′s below.
