Random John Waters quotes from his recent “DVD Favorites” update on NPR:

“The only genre I’m not too crazy about is romantic comedies.”

“There is a close-up of an un-flushed toilet with ridiculous soundtrack music. They were the first to do vulgarity in an almost opera style.”

“I think exploitation films have almost vanished….”

“It’s one of the best arty feel-bad movies ever.

“The film, starring Shirley Stoler, is about an overweight, sullen woman “who hooked up with this guy and they would trick lonely hearts … into having affairs with them and then they would kill them. With the Internet dating today, this certainly could happen again.”

One Response to “John Waters on NPR”

  1. The best part of this interview was when Steve Inskeep brought up Crash and how it seemed out of place with the rest of Waters’ picks. Waters explained that he was referring to Cronenberg’s Crash, which it was apparent NPR really wasn’t familiar with so he then described it. The whole thing made me doubt the researchers at NPR because it should have been obvious that John Waters wouldn’t pick the Sandra Bullock Crash.
