Electrelane on Idle
November 10, 2007
Electrelane is on hiatus. Huge fan here, and while I’m sad, I wasn’t sure how much better they could get after their last record, No Shouts, No Calls (which will probably be on my top ten list for 2007). Go ahead and add them to the list that includes Tracy + The Plastics and The Organ of bands on Too Pure Records that we don’t have to watch fade into mediocrity.
Here is the band’s statement from www.electrelane.com:
“We have decided that the upcoming gigs will be our last for the foreseeable future. After ten years of much fun and hard work, we have realised that we all need a break and time to do other things. This was a tough decision for us to make, but ultimately a positive one.
A big thank you to everyone who has come to our shows, put on our shows, and bought our records over the years. It means a lot to us. We’re really grateful to have had the opportunity to play gigs all over the world and to meet so many lovely people. This last year has been especially enjoyable and we feel happy about moving on with all these good memories to look back on. At the moment we haven’t made any band plans for the future but we’re going to have a break and see what happens.
Love, Electrelane”
Electrelane will finish 2007 with a number of European and UK dates throughout November and December. Check the Tour page for full details.
Their last gasp will be in the form of the new single ‘In Berlin,’ out on Nov 26th on 7″ and download. But FEAR NOT! Their label Too Pure has your glimmer of hope. Earlier this year, they announced a Singles Club that will feature a 7″record every month with new music. November’s installment has Electrelane’s singer Verity Susman on deck with her new project Vera November. Remember KRS‘s Mail Order Freaks? Same idea here. October’s came in the mail this week (pictured above) and I’m in love with its DIY look. Can’t wait for next month!
Here is an analog rip of the B-side for “To The East,” the first single from No Shouts, No Calls. It’s a lovely instrumental, and could maybe soundtrack a graceful exit.
